Avoid. We had the misfortune of choosing this restaurant when we fancied a pizza during a recent visit to Bardolino. After looking at the menu at the front of the outdoor seating, we attempted to ask the hostess/waitress for a table, despite the warning sign of only a single table being occupied on a busy Friday evening. The hostess promptly ignored us and walked away, only returning once we picked our own table. Whilst the hostess was preparing cutlery and menus for us, a short, rotund, balding, bespectacled man--who I can only presume was her manager--approached (physical description provided to ensure you avoid him wherever possible). He first addressed his colleague quite aggressively in Italian, before wheeling towards us, now seated happily and discussing whether we wanted to share a pizza to start, or to have one each and be done with it. The small man switched to English and aggressively demanded to know if we were to eat at the establishment or just drink. He proclaimed in a deeply unprofessional manner that "this is a normal restaurant, you do not come here to drink." Whilst we naively attempted to explain to this small, round man that we were debating how many pizzas to have, and in what fashion, it became clear that he had no interest in engaging in professional dialogue with his potential customers. The small round man interrupted us, shouting that "You will order one pizza each or nothing - this is a normal restaurant!" as he started to collect the cutlery and menus from the table (in hindsight, the insistence that it was a normal restaurant has me worried, too.). At this point we were quite bewildered, as was his poor colleague who had to watch this unfold, and likely has to deal with the foul temper of the small, balding, round man on a regular basis. I would have been quite embarrassed with the entire ordeal if there would have been other customers at the restaurant to witness it. Luckily, we moved on and shared some delicious pizza at one of the many other establishments in the town.
Also, a note on Bardolino in general: it appears a lot of places have fake reviews boosting their score on...
Read moreUsually we are afraid to eat anywhere near Lake of Garda, as it’s usually a combination of 1) touristic/ bad quality food, 2) bad service and 3) gigantic overcrowded restaurants.
This time we took a break near bardolino as it was my dad’s birthday and we didn’t want to be in the car all day. So we headed to Bardolino at night and were in need of a place for dinner. Da Memo was the first place that we saw that wasn’t a restaurant with 300 tables and were the food actually looked Italian and where we didn’t see half of the people eating stuff like fries. on pizza.
It was a good choice and we got a really nice table walking in. I’d probably give it 4/5 for the food as it lacked some flavor and I definitely had better Italian food in the last 3 weeks. But the service was surprisingly well for Lake of Garda. They gave us new cutlery after every dish, checked back with us if we like everything and had great dish suggestions. The combination of great service and the fact that their Millefoglie has been one of my favorite desserts on our whole trip makes...
