Strap in for a long one.
We booked a table for six for Sunday lunch an hour beforehand and they got us in no problem. The serving staff were all very welcoming and spoke English if needed. We were five adults with a toddler and they had highchairs. The ceilings are high and lofty and the ambiance was overall a casual dining spot (many vintage memorabilia). Now on to the food.
We got two orders of the crudo e burrata montanarine and they were delicious (kind of like pizza dough crust mini pizzas, baked not fried). Then we got four different pizzas: diavola, salsiccia e parmigiano, zucca e funghi, and bufala. When our Italian friends explained the menu to us, they said the diavola would be most similar to an American pepperoni pizza which to be frank was not the most appetizing to me. In general I'm not the biggest fan of pizzas (no I have not come to terms with it) but this diavola pizza was amazing. I got the salsiccia e parmigiano pizza and every part of it, from the base to the tomato sauce to the sausages to the cheese and the crust was incredible. I ate all of it and wanted more. The zucca e funghi was original and delicious, we had some leftovers for lunch the next day and it was still scrumptious. Last but certainly not least, what appeared to be a slight variation of the Magherita pizza, the Bufala, was indeed a standalone boasting fresh ingredients and a very satisfying classic flavour.
I have been to Italy at least 6 times now and eat pizza decently often at pizzerias outside of Italy at the behest of many Italian and European friends. This is the best pizza I have ever had. The portions were just right, the ingredients were fresh, the dough was light, it was freaking good.
We also got the tiramisu which was quite enjoyable but not very to my taste. I got got an Italian brewed lager that was very good.
This is a must try place in Bologna and dare I...
Read moreI've never posted a review of a restaurant before, as life's too short to waste time, frankly. But the pizza here is so damn good, it would be remiss of me not to so others can experience the same wonderful experience we had. We went twice even though we were only in Bologna for 3 days. Absolutely not to be missed - I've never tasted a crust as perfect as here - chewy and crisp, but still light. The salami that graced my Diavola pizza was outstandingly delicious, burnt on the edges just the way I suspect the Devil himself would like it. There's also lots of other great, slightly out of the ordinary and varied toppings available that are sure to satisfy everyone. Brooklyn Pilsner and lager on tap, which went down perfectly with the pizza. And lest I forget, an honourable mention for the hazelnut gelato I had for dessert - quite simply the finest ice cream I've ever had. Even the wafer that sat atop the generous portion was a sweet treat. All very good value too. I can't recommend this place highly enough,...
Read moreJust ate here tonight and it was fine. The pizza tasted like...pizza, the toast with anchovies and butter tasted like...anchovies on toast with butter, and the green salad was literally... a bowl of green salad (pictured, four euros, no dressing).
What really stood out was how intermittently curt and borderline rude our waitress was. Avoiding serving us when we sat down, people who came in after us were served before. And then once confirming that I wanted red wine over white, proceeded to bring over white wine and then appeared annoyed that I would want to change that to the wine I ordered.
Things warmed up towards the end though, and she actually spoke to us like human beings. Yay. To ask us how things were, repeatedly. Because I think deep down, she knew she'd been pretty awful.
Unsure if it was because we were tourists or for another reason...
Our first food stop in Bologna. In the immortal and slightly edited words of D:Ream: things can, hopefully,...
