I've came here with school after a terrible night. Tourist guides told us here is where the food culture is born. That Bologna is the centre of food renessance and it bumped up my expetations. I was not disappointed, I might say my expetations were low in comparisson to how incredibile the food is. A true heavenly expirience. The pastas are hand-made and cooked till perfection of soft and chewy. Sauce is so thick and tasty I scraped it with a fork just to eat it all. The plate was licked off clean in a less than 5 minutes. But it was just a beginning, my naive self couldn't imagine what new dimesons of taste were about to be put on this god's earth. The main course came, I ordered one capricosa and my friend ordered cotoletta alla bolognese. First the pizza was truly unique to itself, it was something special. Ingrediants used for this pizza were the best of quality and freshness. You can't find that anywhere outside Bologna and I finally understood why it was a sin to put ketchup on pizza. But the pizza is not where the climax was. Everything until now was just a pregame, becase if I put the cotoletta first in my mouth, I think I would not survive because of all the fireworks of flavours. When I tried it, time stopped. Everything froze in place and I couldn't hear anything anymore. All my sensory receptors had to focus on THE taste to comprehand how amazing and life-changing it was. It tasted like a mothers love I never got, it tasted like god himself came to me from the ether and preformed a personalised catarsis on my taste buds. For all my 18 years of life, I never felt the feeling i felt today. The meat was becoming one with my mouth hitting all the rigth spots, pumping my blood with copious amounts dopamine. All my friends from the table looked at me in curiousity as my eyes started to form tears. The taste was to much, my weak body overstimulated and had to let it out somehow, and it was by tears of joy. I am not joking, this is word for word what happened. The food tasted so perfect it brought me to tears. My stomach screamed and begged of me to stop eating, but my mind said to eat more. "It's just a piece of meat", but that piece of meat doesn't know how much good it did to me, like adrenaline it was addicting. I will never be able to look the same at the ordinary meat, pizzas and pastas ever again. Any time in the future I put some kind of meat in my mouth, my memories will bring me to this exact moment and flood me with soul-crushing sadness because it's not the same. But I do not regret it. This is one of the wonders of life. I cannot recommend this place enough. To all the tourists and people, please go here if you have time. To top it all of, the staff was super nice, pleasent and fast, asking me how everything is and was everything okay after every meal. I felt cared for, I am content and...
Read moreSuch a beautiful venue not far from the University of Bologna Faculty of Engineering, El Tari encompasses all that is warm and welcoming in Bologna hospitality.
The hostess Gisela was quick to invite us in for a special supper and the menu had plenty of options for vegetarian and non vegetarian alike. So ask about the Chef’s special ravioli - we did and you will be pleasantly surprised (no spoilers! 😉) and the seafood risotto were beautifully presented and well seasoned. The restaurant was quickly filling up as our food was served and we observed that no guest was kept waiting as Gisela and her team were very attentive to all. The fragrances wafting from the kitchen were tantalising and the regular procession of dishes so tempting you’ll wish you had a week to try them all! The desserts of tiramisu and strawberry panacotta were heavenly and polished off too soon! 😋
The atmosphere and service alone really sold El Tari as the beating heart of this community within Bologna and Gisela as the warmth within it ❤️🥰🇮🇹
Thank you so much for making my birthday an evening to...
Read moreOur worst meal in Bologna. The pasta was fine/average, but the salad was extremely basic and sparse for the price. Then things got worse. I ordered the steak cooked medium. It came out extremely rare. I sent it back and then it was overcooked so I had to accept it. Our server suggested potatoes with the steak. I would not have chosen this in Italy, but as a recommendation I went along with it. What I got was typical cheap french fries cooked badly for 5 euros. I didn't eat them, and complained about them, but they insisted on charging me anyway. They are clearly more interested in money than service. Every single other person in the restaurant (there weren't many) chose pizza, so I guess that is what they...
