Piano Piano — Restaurant in Bologna

After seeing some more positive reviews I decided to give these guys a try. I ordered the cheese plate, tortellini in Parmesan cream, and panna cotta. All this plus a bottle of sparkling water and a glass of wine was $44; this is the most I spent on a meal in Bologna. I wish I could say that the meal was worth it, but it was disappointing. It didn’t help that there were fruit flies buzzing around. The cheese plate was generous, more than plenty for two. It included four different cheeses and three different preserves/honey to compliment the flavors. The tortellini was really disappointing. Most places serve handmade tortellini with generous fillings. The pasta they served was the same commercial, low-end quality that one would find at a cheap supermarket. The panna cotta was closer to an egg cream and lacked the silken texture one expects in this quintessential Italian dessert. I had dinner with my spouse and ordered two pizzas and two Pepsi. The food itself, especially the pizzas was quite good. However, the overall experience was disappointing. First, the bill included two extra charges of €3 each labeled as “service,” which were not listed anywhere on the menu or I didn't see. When I asked about them, I was simply told it was for the service, but no further explanation was given. Second, the price for a 0.33L in CAN Pepsi was outrageous – €4.50, again, something that should have been more transparent. A pizza experience I wish I could forget…

I don’t even know where to begin. Maybe with the dough — if you can call it that. It was soggy, watery, and completely undercooked on the inside, while the crust was burned on the outside. It felt more like eating wet bread than actual pizza.

Now for the prosciutto…had such a foul, overpowering smell that I seriously questioned whether it was safe to eat. I’m not exaggerating when I say this was the worst pizza I’ve ever had — not just in Bologna, but in all of Italy.
