La Varcuzza — Restaurant in Castellammare del Golfo

Where do I start? We decided to try this restaurant after a day out with friends. I live here locally, so I know which restaurants are tourist traps. This restaurant is a TOURIST TRAP! Which we later found out. When arriving at the restaurant, we were quickly seated by a friendly waiter. The owner named (Christian), who was very cocky and had a smart ass attitude took our order. We decided to eat what he reccommended to us. We had slices of smoked fish, and fresh tuna. The fresh tuna was from a can of tuna you buy in the supermarket!!! We then ordered the pasta with sword fish, and they brought us pasta with CANNED TUNA!!!!!!! This was the worst restaurant I went to in my local area! To top it off, they charge you like it was fresh fish, but they are taking people for IDIOTS: There are many good places to eat in the local area, but this is not...

MUST TRY. We have eaten at many of the port restaurants in this area over the 7 days we spent here, this place had the most amazing fresh fish pasta dish. We didn’t get any photos as we didn’t expect much. We were looking for a lower cost place for a late lunch. Tavolini in veranda vista porto. Veniamo accolti da Cristian che ci spiega subito dove siamo: locale di pescatori che cucinano di giorno in giorno in base al pescato svariati fuori menù (più tutto il menù fisso, abbastanza breve, benissimo: sintomo di pesce fresco). Il servizio è "casalingo" e l'atmosfera è subito quella. I ragazzi ti mettono subito a tuo agio e trasudano genuina ospitalità. L'ambiente è di conseguenza: curato ma rustico. Insomma, se cercate un posto "finto alla mano" o un posto "di livello", con lo chef, i camerieri incravattati, basta guardarsi un po' intorno e Castellammare offre ampia scelta. La Varcuzza invece è un posto unico, per le persone che lo conducono prima di tutto, per l'ambiente realmente verace (a me personalmente più congeniale), per i prezzi più che onesti e ultimo, ma non meno importante, per il pesce, di cui non ho ancora parlato.

Il pesce è da commuoversi. Come detto, è tutto fresco del giorno, tant'è che dall' ora di pranzo a chiusura i piatti disponibili vanno man mano a calare per esaurimento. Qui si mangiano ricette tipiche fatte a regola d'arte, senza inutili fronzoli. Quello che conta è la bontà della materia prima e "l'esecuzione esperta" della ricetta. Più semplice è meglio è: sarde a beccafico e trancio di spada alla griglia, ad esempio. Ordinate qualunque cosa tra menù e fuori menù (il secondo consigliato per la particolarità dei piatti), chiudete gli occhi, assaggiate il primo boccone e lasciatevi trasportare.

Spero che La Varcuzza e i ragazzi che lo gestiscono non cambino mai. Si tratta di quelle perle di cui non ti dimentichi e in cui speri un giorno di poter tornare. Bravi ragazzi,...
