If you’re a vegan with a sweet tooth, Bar Mazzini in Catania is a hidden treasure you won’t want to miss. Tucked away in this unassuming spot, they serve an amazingly delicious vegan chocolate cannolo that is nothing short of spectacular.
Unlike the standard pastries on display, this vegan cannolo is made to order, ensuring maximum freshness and flavor. It’s generously sized—big enough to satisfy even the most intense dessert cravings. The crispy, golden shell is perfectly balanced with a rich and creamy chocolate filling that’s velvety smooth and decadently satisfying. To elevate it further, the cannolo is topped with crunchy pistachio pieces, adding a delightful texture and a hint of nutty sweetness that pairs beautifully with the chocolate.
The fact that it’s made to order adds an extra layer of indulgence—you feel like you’re getting something truly special and crafted just for you. Despite its size and luxurious flavor, the cannolo isn’t overwhelmingly heavy, making it an ideal treat for any time of day.
Bar Mazzini might not advertise this vegan gem prominently, but it’s well worth asking for. If you’re in Catania and craving a vegan dessert that’s both traditional and indulgent, this chocolate pistachio cannolo is a must-try. It’s a sweet experience you’ll remember long after...
Read moreOn our first day in Catania, under the scorching heat, many cafés were closed and we were desperate for a quick refreshment. After finally finding a stall selling seltz limone, we looked for a shaded spot to sit and catch our breath. Finding no public seating nearby, we sat for barely two minutes at this café’s outdoor tables — which were almost entirely empty — simply to finish our drinks and decide our next steps.
Within moments, a manager approached asking for our order. I explained we were about to leave. Then another manager arrived, repeated the question, and rudely inspected our empty cups. Mistakenly assuming we had brought in orange juice he also sold, he reprimanded us for sitting there. Despite the café being mostly empty, he made it clear we were not welcome. As we left, I turned back to see him gossiping and pointing at us to the only other occupied table.
In an age where businesses succeed through good service, respect, and basic kindness — not just food quality — this behaviour is shortsighted and unprofessional. Hospitality costs nothing, but losing potential customers does. We certainly won’t return, and judging by other reviews, this management has learned nothing from past feedback.
A missed opportunity — and...

Waiting staff didn’t seem to understand us very well, but then again we were English and the were Sicilian and so this is understandable
The service was very slow with our waiter taking a breaks and not really being very attentive. Drinks were served fast, however the menus look very old and cheap and the pictures did not match what arrived.
We spent around €50 for 4 drinks and were even given small cheap plastic cups for water, again very cheap and basic. We had 3 pastas, one was not like the menu images or description. As service was so slow we decided to eat anyway.
I have to give 1 star as within 2 hours I had food poisoning from this food, needing to find a toilet very quickly.
Try the restaurant...
