Trattoria Serano Review - A Pasta Lover’s Paradise in Catania
During my recent visit to Catania, I had the pleasure of dining at Trattoria Serano, and I must say, this restaurant has set a whole new standard for pasta. Being in Italy, one might expect delicious food, but what we experienced was truly exceptional.
We arrived a little later in the evening, with the vibrant streets of Catania alive with an eclectic mix of foreign and Italian voices. The atmosphere was enhanced by an Italian singer performing beloved classics across the street, creating the perfect backdrop for a memorable night out in Sicily. Our street-side seating allowed us to absorb every detail of this enchanting setting.
To kick off our culinary journey, we chose a lovely fruity Sicilian white wine, keeping things light and refreshing. For our main courses, Jillian ordered the Spaghetti alla Vongole, while I opted for the paccheri with beef and porcini mushrooms. Both dishes were cooked to perfection, al dente, just as good pasta should be.
The beef in my dish was tender and perfectly sized, complementing the pasta seamlessly rather than overpowering it. The sauce was a masterpiece of subtlety, allowing each flavor to shine through without overwhelming the palate. I found myself wishing the dish would never end, and when it did, I happily used the crusty bread provided to savor every last drop of that exquisite sauce.
To accompany our pasta, we selected a glass of Nero d’Avola, which proved to be an ideal pairing. Its soft, dry fruit notes danced on the palate without any harsh tannins, enhancing our meal beautifully.
For dessert, we shared the cannoli and pistachio tiramisu. While both were delicious, they didn’t quite reach the life-changing heights of my pasta. To conclude our evening, we indulged in a delightful Grappa Bianca—fruity and complex, it was the perfect way to extend the night.
I can’t wait to return to Trattoria Serano, especially to try their aged T-bone, which I regrettably didn’t have the appetite for this time around. This dining experience is one I will cherish and look forward to revisiting on...

Read moreThis is a MUST GO TO restaurant for sure. Had the most delicious dinner there on November 11th. Here’s the crazy part— During dinner, there was a torrential rainstorm and although under a very large canopy, the 6 maybe 8 people next to us had to leave their table because the wind was blowing rain in on them and the ground was flooding near their feet. We were elevated so we stayed despite some splashing rain dripping down the wall next to us. The owners led them to their other restaurant across the street. These owners and their employees used umbrellas and carried multiple plates of food in the pouring rain flooded street just so those people could have their meals! If THIS isn't impeccable service I don't know what is!!! We were so impressed with this restaurants determination and exceptional food that we went back tonight November 12th. All this and reasonably priced offerings is why I highly recommend you dine here! (Just want to add that we ate there a 3rd time the...
