Al Ristoro Di Re Ruggero — Restaurant in Cefalù

Just visited this restaurant after reading the rave reviews and left extremely upset as we were totally ripped off. I ordered a tomato salad which was just chopped tomatoes with absolutely zero dressing! We ordered the gnocchi as a main but was given a starter portion, the seabass with 'crispy chips' arrived salty with a couple of slimey waffer thin potatoes on top. When we mentioned this to the waiter he was very very defensive. When I said the tomato salad is just chopped tomatoes he said I couldn't make this at home that it was a special salad?! There was NO dressing! He also said the gnocchi was 120gram portion and kept on repeating this. Also the slimey waffer thin potatoes he said are how they are made here and we do not know. We are not ignorant about food we know when we are being ripped off. I honestly can't fathom all the good reviews. I'd also like to add when I mentioned the poor quality food the waiter then mentioned that we should wear a mask when we visit the toilet (which we did)and that most restaurants charge extra for children as we had a 3 year old with us?!!... very bizzare he was doing everything to divert the subject and justify the poor quality. Do you know the expression: "the customer is always right"? Well. here the opposite is true.

First of the service is slow, I mean very slow. We had to wait for our food for about 1 hour, and the restaurant was far from full. Most of the tables around us also had to wait a similar time so don't eat here if you are not ready to wait.

Second, your not waiting for a very good meal. We ordered multiple dishes for our table and each and every one of them did not taste very good or to be honest anything at all.

I been to most of the restaurants in Cefalu and I can tell you that this "experience" is the worst so far.

I sincerely hope that the staff was just having a really bad day, because otherwise I really can't understand how a restaurant in Italy can be...

Got served warm, actually hot limoncello - when we asked about cold ones they simply answered no (?)

Waited 1 hour for the food ... 2 in our company ordered carbonara wich didnt taste anything AND only had 2 bits of small pecorini in each plate. The pasta pesto tasted vey wierd and the shrimps unfortunatly had very much poo in them. Seemed more like they were boiled than grilled?

We only tasted our food and said we were not happy- waiter told us that he did not share our opinion and got rude and agressive . No compensation or service to make it up. We paid full price and left with the plates still full.
