I wanted to like this restaurant and leave it a good review. But after our treatment, in the several remaining days we spent at Nago & Riva, we decided to eat elsewhere.
My wife and I waited in line and were seated at 9:45 PM (closing hours were marked as 11:00PM). We received menus and I flagged an elderly white haired gentleman (who I presume was the owner and not a waiter) to ask a question about a specific dish. The same man returned minutes later and took our order by 9:55 PM. My wife was in mid sentence giving her order when he gruffly interrupted her to state the kitchen was closed and that dish wouldnt be possible. I asked the man why were we even seated if the kitchen "was closed"? His response was that "we took too much time looking at the menu".
I reminded him were were only seated 10 minutes ago & if the kitchen was closing soon, someone should have advised us of that (the moment we took the table) so we would hurry and make our choices in the remaining time. Nobody had cautioned us the kitchen was closing despite interacting with at least 3 restaurant staff (including the elderly man). I reminded the menu is thick with many options - so in our opinions, 10 minutes is not an excessive amount of time to decide & make our selections. I apologized to the man as an act of grace (I just wanted to eat and not argue) but we had no idea and truthfully, we expected a restaurant & not a fast food dining experience. The man relented, took our orders and we were soon eating.
The realties of closing hours could have been better communicated to us more gracefully and politely. We found the man's rude tone & argumentative attitude to be unpleasant & unwelcoming which unfortunately marred our resulting dining experience. Therefore, we declined to order anything else -no wine, no coffee or a dessert. If the kitchen was "so bothered" to accommodate us, then we would eat as quickly as possible so they would not have to tolerate us any longer. There is a certain way to communicate with and treat customers and our experience was awful. We picked this restaurant only to be insulted & treated poorly. But after our treatment, in the several remaining days we spent at Nago & Riva, we decided gladly to...
Read moreDining at Al Porto in Torbole, Lake Garda, is an experience that one must simply savour to believe. As a seasoned foodie who has traversed the culinary landscapes of many a region, I can confidently say that this charming restaurant offers some of the finest food I’ve ever tasted in Italy.
The quality of the cuisine at Al Porto is nothing short of phenomenal. The pasta, dear friends, is truly second to none. Each bite is a delightful dance of texture and flavor, prepared with the kind of authenticity that speaks volumes about the chef's dedication to their craft. And the seafood—oh, the seafood! Fresh, delectable, and cooked to perfection, it defies description. You must try it to understand its sublime magnificence.
The staff at Al Porto are equally commendable. Their attentiveness and warmth made our family of five feel right at home, a rare feat that adds a special touch to the dining experience. The children were particularly well looked after, and the availability of gluten-free options was a superb bonus, accommodating all dietary needs with ease.
Though the restaurant doesn't boast a lake view, this is hardly a drawback. The ambience is wonderfully serene, free from the intrusion of traffic, allowing diners to focus on the splendid food and company. And the house wine? Simply delightful and very reasonably priced, rounding off the meal perfectly.
If you find yourself in the Torbole region, a visit to Al Porto is an absolute must. The nightly queues of eager patrons are a testament to its well-deserved reputation. So, take my word for it and make your way to this culinary gem—your taste buds...
Read moreWe went here based on the good reviewies but were really dissapointed. MyIt started when my friend ordered a 0.4L fanta beacuse she sepcifically wanted more than a can. I ordered a regular can of soda, we both got the same glass mine just came empty (except the ice) and I poured the can in myself. The "0.4L" fanta is exactly as much as a reuglar can just more expensive. For food I got a pizza crudo which was alright, the dough was good, nice and thin but the toppings were not good quality (the grana slices tasted of absolutely nothing). My friend got the "Tris della casa", a variation of three pasta dishes. The ravioli were alright but nothing special, the tagliatelle were overcooked and the sauce was again anything but special. The worst of the bunch were the strozzapretti, which she was looking forward too the most. There was no sauce, the strozzapretti themselves had a weird conistency and no taste (My guess is that they are not selfmade but bought packaged). We had strozzapretti a couple of times in the week before, which we spent in the trentino mountains and the difference was...
