Bottega Osteria dal Pulverun — Restaurant in Domodossola

I have returned after 4-months and my 5-star rating remains! This time, it was just my son and I, neither of whom spoke or understood Italian. The service staff was welcoming and spoke no English. They refused to give me a menu (I do know Italian dishes!) as they would recite the day's plate-du-jour and specials (I think they had only 3 or 4 choices that day). After a few minutes, the CHEF came out. She spoke English well but was happier when we conversed in French. True to it's reputation, they served only local produce. That day was mushrooms from the mountains. BTW, only order appetizers if you are a truly HEAVY eater. I had the special and the primo piatto was almost a full meal. The mushrooms with the cheese were almost melting as the aroma and flavor enveloped my mouth. The 2nd course, Beef, was HEAVENLY. The almost 4-hour train ride and the difficulties (more like fun) of finding non-English speaking service staff were the spices to a wonderful and excellent value-for-money meal. Sadly, we had to catch the train back so, we were not able to enjoy some dessert or to buy some items from their shop. BTW, request to be seated in the basement. Excellent restaurant/gourmet shop where to taste local cheese and cold cuts! Unfortunately for me, I was there at 4 p.m. and the kitchen was closed, however I am sure that warm dishes must have been delicious! Abbiamo voluto dare una seconda possibilità al locale ma solo per avere la conferma che non vale la pena tornarci. Le pietanze così così anche un po' scarse e i prezzi alti non giustificano niente. Tagliere misto con fette di formaggio tagliate male messo sul tavolo con totale menefreghismo. Abbiamo chiesto di comprare del pane di segale ma volevano darci tutt'altro pane facendolo passare per quello che volevamo. C'è una certa arroganza da parte di chi gestisce il locale che non va proprio bene e che ti toglie la motivazione per tornarci . Avranno pensato che comunque non saremmo più passati da loro e giustamente hanno pensato bene perché non ci fermeremo un' altra volta sicuramente. Peccato perché è un locale veramente carino e mi auguro non tanto per me ormai ma per i nuovi clienti di passaggio di trovare dei miglioramenti in futuro perché meritano un trattamento migliore.
