The food in Pappamonte was great. We were having dinner, 3 adults and 2 kids. Everything we've ordered was perfect, tasty and none was left out of. Also the deserts. You might expect such a key location to have tourist-traps, this is NOT the case with this place.
But, I wanna share with you something different.
We parked our car over at the designated Ercolano Archeological site parking lot, and went strolling. We probably missed the sign (in Italian) that said the parking will be shut on 19:30. And so, we went for this great dinner and afterwards were surprised to realize our car was "trapped" inside the parking lot, and we need to get back to our B&B which was about 15min drive from there. No taxi was available, nor on the streets. It was dark, windy, rain was expected. We've decided to head back to the restaurant, call for a taxi maybe. There, outside, chatting with some customers after their shift we found Salvatore. He's the Chef, we later learned. We looked for the manager and started explaining the delicate situation, we didn't even finish to tell the story, and Chef Salvatore jumped and took us to his car to give us a lift to our B&B. So the food of Pappamonte was delicious BUT the service(!) was one of a kind for us (and BTW, not only by him... they were so good - all the staff - great...

HOWEVER... The food was atrocious!
We both ate a burger and yes... I know that burgers are probably not the thing to eat in Italy, but after five days of pasta and pizza we really wanted something different for a change.
The bread was bland, the patty was charred and tasted even more burned then it looked and as the burger also didn't have any sauce or condiments on it, the whole thing tasted charred. Additionally, the knives were so dull, that cutting the burger with them was a task worthy of Sissyphus to do for eternity.
My girlfriends burger also suffered from similar issues which made us just regret coming there. The only redeeming quality were the french fries served with the burgers.
I can not speek for any other dishes, but those burgers were a crime to...
Read moreRight next to the Herculaneum so I didn't have high expectations, but I quite enjoyed my food. I was feeling something more American towards the end of a trip filled with Italian food, so the fried chicken sandwich was a perfect fit. Could've used a bit more mayo to smooth out the huge bun and thin crispy chicken strips, but overall a great sandwich. They have Italian classics as well, so I got some lightly fired zucchini with Modena vinegar as a starter, loved it.
Service was good though a touch slow with almost nobody there. Cut restaurant with a ton of character and a quaint spiral staircase up to the 2nd level.
Very happy with my...
