Cielo Restaurant Fiumicino is a trendy, tasty, and enjoyable restaurant spot on the canal in Fiumicino. We previously ate here in 2019, and I am happy to report after two visits earlier this month, Cielo is just as good as we remembered. The first visit was for afternoon drinks, and we like the fact that they have an actual American-style bar, not very common in Italy at all. They also have Peroni Gran Riserva Rossa and numerous other European beers on tap, giving this reviewer some slight relief after two straight weeks of wine drinking. The second visit this month was dinner that same night, and it was an amazing experience. We had a window seat and they had opened the windows/doors so we were inside but still dining al fresco and enjoying the amazing ambiance and people watching along the Fiumicino waterfront. The restaurant was very crowded with Italian locals, which we see as a good sign, but we had outstanding service and never waited for anything. After ordering a bottle of wine from the huge selection, and wanting a very special experience for our last night in Italy, we picked out a fresh and whole sea bass on ice from the display case with the expert advice of our chef, who then cleaned and weighed our huge fish. We were given a price for the completed dinner, and it was very reasonable for the entertainment and delicious dinner we were about to be served. It was amazing as the chef personally skinned and served our piping hot fish tableside. It was also accompanied by perfectly roasted vegetables and potatoes. Just check out the pics to see the culinary delight that graced our table. We would highly recommend this restaurant for any travelers...
Read moreWe stayed in Fiumicono the night before our departure and chose this restaurant based on its reviews. The decor was lovely. We were seated efficiently upstairs, but then everything went downhill from there. The food was good - but most of the staff must have called in sick on this night. The intial approach by the wait staff is normally to ask about water and wine - but our waiter forgot to even ask - and we had to remind him. When we finished our antipasti the server actually placed the dishes with the primo ON TOP OF the dirty antipasti dishes! What!!?? The second dishes trickled out slowly and erratically (we were a group of eight). A server cleared people's main dishes before one of our party was even served his meal. No apology was offered. We are fairly sure his main dish was seerved to another table. Why did our waiter not notice that one diner had no food? No one ever glanced at our table - even though staff passed by it frequently to serve other tables. The restaurant was NOT full. Getting somone's attention to request refills on water and wine without being rude or obnoxious (we refrained) was a real challenge - and then after someone brought the water the wait staff forgot to bring the wine. Other tables did not seem to have similar problems. We have never been in a restaurant in Italy where we thought that our status as tourists made a difference - but it did this night. Even after eating good food, we left the table feeling frustrated and sad. We hope that this was a one-off - but we will not give them a second chance the next time we are...
Read moreNice enough location reasonably close to a decent hotel we stayed at before our departure flight out of FCO Rome International Airport.
We had a rather good lobster pasta & a tasty cheesecake interpretation. See picture, it was more of a light foam with berries & a flavorful graham cookie base. We cant recommend the mushroom fettucine & we had high hopes.
Service was spotty at best & we never got our 2nd bottle of requested water though were billed for it (easily resolved). I'll be optimistic that Service varies as it does everywhere. We couldn't determine who was our primary server or if we had one & our food runner could of cared less that we wanted dessert or after dinner drinks.
There was a nearby table performing illicit activities but I don't know that the staff saw what myself & my daughter observed them inhaling, it certainly wasn't food or anything to incline them to eat.
Reasonable-ish prices but more than you would expect after the amazing prices for world class dining in Rome. Destination prices but not on the seashore, no beach in sight.
We chose this restaurant bc they had lobster & not only fish on their menu versus many of the local options. This is a coastal city so siesta times/closures apply & at 630 many restaurants were not yet open when we wanted to eat & rest early. Even still I'd recommend staying in Fiumicino before catching a flight out of FCO, it's just easier & less hassle vs Roma Termini to FCO.
The lobster dish was tasty enough we might try again but I'd hope for better service & no...
