Osteria della Bistecca — Restaurant in Florence

ONLY LOCALS WELCOME. We asked to sit outside. It was about 7:50 pm and 2 of the outside tables were taken.There were probably 8 empty tables outside with one large table. The owner/waiter told us that all tables were reserved outside for 8 pm. But we could sit inside. It was blazing hot inside, no one was seated there. We politely asked again. Please a table outside. But no go. We left. We did not want to stay if we were not wanted. My husband uses a cane so we checked nearby and didn’t see any other restaurants. When we walked past again at a little after 8 there were no additional patrons.

Had dinner at this restaurant tonight. From the start, the atmosphere was quite unpleasant, since I immediately witnessed the owner scolding his staff out loud, and soon afterwards a table asked to sent their steak back to the kitchen, to which the owner replied "Do you want me to throw it away?". The waiter left me waiting for about 10 minutes until he could take my order, and the food was not at all impressive, barely passable. I witnessed 3 other tables going through similar issues, mainly the owner being rude as he took their order. Then, I asked for the check and it took another 10-15 minutes to pay my check and...

We stopped by there a bit randomly after picking up a rental car at the airport (which took quite a while) and we wanted to have a good lunch before hitting the road towards La Spezia (2h drive, and our little son was super hungry!). We got a good feeling about this place and we were not disappointed. Very good service, was efficient, and really good food. It is a simple family place for lunch but worth stopping by.
