Wyndham Garden Florence was chosen and organised by Cosmos, as it was inclusive in our tour package. We stayed there for two nights. You can’t miss the building – it stands out from the rest of the surroundings, it’s a bit of contemporary art – colourful and modern looking on the outside. The staff at Wyndham Garden Florence are absolutely amazing and friendly. Check-in was super-fast and efficient and we were given a key card to access our room. They also have ice machine maker for free located on their floor – in their lobby / lounge area. The rooms are of compact size, modern and clean with the necessary essentials you need (aircon, tele, WiFi, tea/coffee, kettle, soap etc plus two bottles of complimentary water) but we had a WTF? moment. Their bathroom doors are of frosted glass – we didn’t really like it, especially having the toilet in there. You can see the silhouette of whoever is in the bathroom – not comfortable with that. So, if you’re going with a friend, and you’re not intimate with that friend, just be prepared or get separate rooms. Their basin is located in the bedroom – I did mention that it was compact, right? We had a buffet breakfast which was delicious and plentiful, it included – coffees / teas, fruit juice, croissants, biscuits, homemade cake, jam, fresh bread, cereal, cold cuts, cheese, and salad. The accommodation is away from the hustle and bustle of Florence city but it’s only a three-minute drive away from Florence airport – having stated that, we didn’t hear a thing, while we slept at night. The bed and pillows were nice and firm and comfortable and the hotel was nice and quiet – we had a decent sleep both nights. It is also easy walking distance to the tram that takes you straight to the city centre of Florence. Their on-site restaurant ‘Nolita Space Restaurant’ is located the floor below reception. We had dinner there both nights. Nadia was running the show there, she was the only waitstaff on our first night (and had a little helper the following night) and one chef but WOW… the two didn’t miss a beat. Service was pretty fast and efficient – no errors made and our meals arrived steaming hot. Over the two nights of fine dining, we ordered for starters ‘Nachos Messicani’ (Corn Chips with Cheddar Cheese and Jalapeños) – very nice and a generous serve as a starter. Our mains ‘Spaghettone con Polpette’ (spaghetti, tomato pasta sauce and meatballs), pasta cooked to perfection, the sauce was delicious and the meatballs soft and tasty. ‘Salame Piccante’ pizza (mozzarella, tomato sauce and spicy salami), we just love Italian pizza base, consistent throughout Italy and their topping is just amazing – definitely their tomato base sauce, rich and flavoursome and the salami, moderate hot. ‘Meat Lovers’ pizza (mozzarella, tomato sauce, spicy salami, cooked ham, beef, port and bacon), would satisfy meat lovers for sure – chunks of meat and bacon slices not diced. ‘Cotto & Funghi’ (mozzarella, tomato sauce, cooked ham and mushrooms) the pizza has that bite of juiciness with the mushrooms – nice combination with the ham. For dessert, we all had ‘Gelato Artigianale’ (Artisanal ice-creams in a small tub that comes in four flavours: Pistachio, Chocolate, Vanilla and Lemon) – all flavours delicious. Highly recommend Nolita Space Restaurant, delicious fresh food, excellent friendly service (again… to our amazement, only one chef, the waiting time wasn’t long and you could actually watch him cooking up a storm!), super-efficient and fair price. Nadia has a fantastic attitude and with a smile on her face, she even had time to share with us, how amazed / shocked she was that we managed to eat the whole pizza, she told us that she has never seen their guests eat the whole pizza, previous diners actually ask if they could take the rest back with them. Overall, we had a fantastic stay, well rested, convenient location, beautiful helpful and friendly staff and delicious fresh food to start our day and to end...
Read moreWe stayed in August 2024. Potential guests should be aware most of the room amenities listed on the website and the details of the room you receive after booking are substantially embellished to the point of misleading advertising. They state the following which are incorrect: a mini bar, laptop sized safe, closet, desk, ergonomic chair, canopy poster bed and expressor maker.
There was no mini bar, not even a mini fridge, it was a micro sized wall cooler the size of a bathroom size medicine cabinet that could only fit 2 small bottles of water. Not an ergonomic chair, not even a chair, just a cube to sit on, and no desk just a narrow shelf, the safe was only a standard size small safe. No canopy poster bed, just 2 single beds pushed together, The closet was just a hanging rail, and no lighted make-up mirror as stated and no expresso machine. The sofa bed was not a sofa bed, it was a single bed pushed up against the wall, you cannot sit on it like a sofa.
When I complained we were given a kettle to take to the room. We later had to ask for coffee mugs so not to use the same 2 paper cups provided.
Further, the bathroom basin was in the bedroom and no bench in bathroom to put anything on. The bathroom had a frosted glass door and was like a small cubicle located in the room. There were issues, sometimes the toilet did not flush. The shower was narrow and the draining tray on the floor was dangerous as it was located in the middle of the shower and the metal top easily moved causing you to slip, or skate, potentially smashing your head on the hard wall.
The name Wyndham Garden is misleading as it suggests there is an outside area with plants. There is no outside area to sit and no plants. The bar located in the basement is called “Garden bar”, yet the outlook is mostly to a concrete wall with a few plants in pots.
Upon check-in we were allocated an inferior room to the one we booked. We booked a Queen room with sofa bed and the amenities listed on the website, however, we got a tiny room with no sofa bed or any of the amenities listed. When I realised and told reception, they moved us to a room with sofa bed though there was initially no apology and no offer to refund the difference in price between the 2 rooms. It wasn’t until 2 days later when I asked to speak to the manager, the staff would not give me the managers name but offered us complimentary breakfast and dinner which was a satisfactory compensation.
The managers response to the other poor reviews, “they want our voice to be heard and asking us to reach out with other concerns”, appears to be a standard reply to look good and is paying “lip service”. After we read the other reviews we realised many of the issues we experienced have already been raised in other 1 and 2 star reviews during the past year.
Prior to this stay on our trip around Europe, we have stayed in hotels in London, Paris and Milan, all around 170-200 Euros/night and they all provided great complimentary breakfasts and exceptional service. At Wyndham Garden the breakfast was an additional 12 Euro charge each, disappointing especially when there are no other food options for guests closeby.
Overall the staff were reasonably helpful if you were persistent however the manager needs to address the hotel issues mentioned above. In my opinion this is not a...
Read moreThis is the worst experience we've had at any hotel. We had to change rooms twice after we were settled in the original room. The toilets didn’t work in the first two rooms. No one would answer the phone at the desk, so I had to walk down the cold hallway to get help and use a bathroom. I’m 80 yrs old and have had a need replacement, so it was not easy for me since our room wasn’t close to the desk. By the time I had move to the The 3rd room, I said I’m not going to have my husband and son make another 20 min trip, so the clerk offered to help move me.She did not, however make up the sofa bed which I was using because it was too high for me to get in the bed. This room didn’t even have a phone that worked. I was told by the clerk, “You’ll have to use your cell phone.” ||||Later, a total stranger was given access to our room with a key card while I was there alone. I was too stressed and sick to go to the Thanksgiving dinner at my grandson’s. I had to use my cell phone to call the desk to see why someone was able to get into our room. No apology, just I made a mistake. ||When we went to get into the room the following evening, our key card had been deactivated; my husband had to walk back to the desk room to get it activated. When we, finally, got in the room, we saw it had not been cleaned:beds not made no clean towels obviously, the bathroom wasn’t cleaned either. Then at 3 AM in the morning we were leaving, the fire alarm went off, and we had to sit in the cold lobby for 45 mins. before we could return to our rooms.|||| I lodged a complaint and did get an email from the manager saying my son’s card wouldn’t be charged for the four night stay because of the problems we encountered during out stay. I felt that this is what he should do since we didn’t get the service that was paid for. Several weeks later, he charged my son’s card for the stay and put a $50 credit on the card claiming we agreed to this. This was an absolute falsehood.; we expected to not be charged as he stated in the email he sent me.||||This debacle was to be a nice vacation. We came from Florida to Florence to share Thanksgiving with my grandson, his fiancee who live in Florence, my son, his wife, and one of his other sons who had driven in from PA. I was so stressed and sick after all the moves and problems, I couldn’t even go to the Thanksgiving dinner. By the time we left, I was so sick, I went to an urgent hoping the doctor could help me.||||At no time could my son or I speak to the manager to resolve the issue of the charged card. In fact, I couldn’t even get to speak to him when we were at the hotel to discuss how terrible our situation was. Customer Service for Wyndham Hotels and Resorts was even less helpful. Although when they answer the phone they say they care about their guests comfort and safety, but told me it was up to the franchisee or his manager to address what happened to us. Because I was so stressed and sick from this horrible experience I’m still not...
