This place never disappoints. This is our second year visiting Florence and frequenting Osteria la Scala. Let’s start with the quaint atmosphere, welcoming, warm and great selection of background music. Whether you are sitting outdoors or inside, the warmth envelopes you and immediately makes you feel at home, relaxed and ready to enjoy a great glass of wine and delicious meal. Location is so convenient close to the train station in historic center of Florence.
The food is always amazing and is the best mix of traditional Italian meets comfort. Their dishes are true to the region, made with a love for tradition and consistently prepared and served. Some favorites (craving them even though we’ve only been back in the states a week): Traditional Tuscan Beef Stew, Lasagna, carbonara, ragu alla bolognese, pappardelle with boar ragu, potato tortellini with porcini mushrooms and if you go with a big appetite, you might just want to sink your teeth into a nice juicy steak, Florentine style (Bistecca alla Florentina). And the tiramisu for dessert!
The owners are welcoming, feel like old friends, help with menu suggestions and spark up great conversation. Their staff are friendly, attentive, and work really hard to ensure their customers have a great experience. They all work well together and the service shows as well as the warm atmosphere.
Just as Florence has stolen our hearts, so has Osteria la Scala! We cannot wait for another...
Read moreI am not big on reviews but this time i feel it is important to share as our vacation almost ended up in a hospital... We went there for an early dinner on October 16th. Because of rainy day we wanted a cosy atmosphere and hot Italian food. I personally had Toscana soup and that was the biggest mistake. About 4 hours later I was in so much pain that made hard to move or bend. At the beginning we could not figure out what exactly is going on, went for a walk thinking it will get better but it was only getting worse and had to stop stop multiple times as the pain was so strong in the abdomen that it was hard to even breath in. Was feeling a light nausea but nothing would come out. In another hour we were trying to decide what to do as the pain got worse... I tried to avoid going to a hospital on our vacation at any cost and had to force myself to throw up and all of the sudden got a relief and the pain in abdomen went away.
In general a cute place but definitely overpriced for not a fresh food. Also interesting part that there is another similar review at around same time we were there that someone got sick...
Read moreHad a tremendous experience at this restaurant. Not only was the food extremely tasty, the wait staff was caring and friendly. We had a party of 6 and were sat quickly. We were given a perfect amount of time to get drink orders figured out as well as food orders figured out.
They gave great recommendations and made sure that I knew what tripe was before ordering it knowing that some may be averse to what it is. Drinks came out quickly, the coursed out appetizers and entrees perfectly, and they took care of us all throughout the meal.
Food came out looking spectacular and the taste was even better. I highly recommend the trippa alla florentina. My friend had the filet with black peppercorn sauce which had a perfect richness to the sauce as well as a great quality cut of meat. The pappardale with bolognese had a great bodied sauce and a perfectly cooked, and fresh pasta.
Ambience was great and food was spectacular. Worth the stop if...
