This place has very quickly made itself a little space in my heart! Visited on the recommendation of Trip Advisor bearing in mind the many notes of "difficult to find" and indeed it was ...but it's very worth it. It looks like it should or was once a run down old warehouse but it's been scrubbed clean and beautifully decorated with thick industrial pipes running up the walls to create floor to ceiling shelving, hanging industrial sized lights, old brickwork left exposed or showing through the plaster of the walls and archways, large pulleys hanging from the ceiling, wood beams, plus thick brown freight rope left in coils or hanging from pulleys, furnished with wrought iron and reclaimed wood furniture. The place resembles a vineyard's charming old storage room; bottles of wine everywhere on the shelves (count: thousands of bottles!) and crates stacked in strategic rows to divide dining areas. The atmosphere and interior was perfect, exceeded only buy the lovely servers who were one and all very helpful; anyone who could speak English was called up to come greet us or help us in making our choices of both food and wine. Those who did not speak English still made the effort of making gestures asking if we were enjoying ourselves or how the food was - which was divine. My first time there I had squid stuffed with swordfish which came with a tasty sauce and salad, cooked perfectly and served beautifully. I have not had squid that soft and succulent since the Philippines. One server who spoke little English but saw we were enjoying our wine and grasped we clearly wouldn't be having dessert (sugar and wine don't mix) offered for us to try a plaste of cheese though there was no cheese plaste on the menu. He came back with a large plate of decent sized servings (barely managed to finish it) and only charged us €6. Were it not for the prices (think circa €30 per head, wine included) I would think this place is a secret fine dining restaurant, so lovely was our experience. We had to come back two days later on our last night in Firenze, in hopes it would be as lovely as our first visit which it most certainly was! We highly recommend this place - the travel distance from the city center will be more...
Read moreJust came back from dinner at this little gem of a restaurant. There is a great selection of home made pasta dishes, risotto, steaks, and platters. I ordered the home made spinach gnocchi with porcini mushrooms, tomatoes and bacon whilst my partner opted for the vegetarian risotto with black cabbage (Tuscan kale), blue cheese and beans. Both our meals were well presented and the wines we chose were both full bodied and delicious. Dessert was a melt in your mouth spiced pear, sautéed in red wine served with vanilla gelato. Our waiter, who had been living previously for one year in Australia, was really attentive and helpful in explaining some of the dishes on the menu. Our accommodation was located around the corner but even for those who are located further away I would definitely recommend making the walk or journey as it is really a great place despite being off the beaten track. The atmosphere and design is also beautiful- rustic and open plan with lots of space and privacy for couples and...
Read moreWe were really tired due to long transfer time to Florence, this was the only place nearby and opened late, so we gave it a chance. Best decision so far. The owner, he really knew his food. He recommended us what to eat, to drink and please listen to him. The steak here was probably the best steak I have ever eaten in my life and the price was insanely good. My parents keep showing this place to others, talking about their best steak in Europe. Please give this place a try and shout out to the...
