IL Guscio This was an amazing way to spend our last night in Florence. We have enjoyed some fabulous dining experiences and this one ranks very highly indeed. We took a 30 minute walk which is close to the La Carraia bridge. The reception we were given was warm and friendly before being escorted to our table. The menu is set out in a typical Italian way with Antipasti , Primi , Secondi and Desserts. A selection of bread arrived while we decided what to order. For the Antipasti we chose the Tuna Tartare with avocado and yoghurt along with a fantastic Beef Tartare with truffle , parmigano cheese and artichokes. These were two amazing dishes that left us excited for what was to follow. Now to the Primi where we opted for the Maltagliata with zucchini flowers , shrimp and prawn as well as my Paccheri n’duja with cherry tomatoes and burrata cheese. To say these dishes were heaven would be an understatement. Now on to the Secondi and wow was I in for something special. My wife chose the Lemon Meatballs with baked vegetables. For myself I chose my favourite Octopus which came with white beans and potato velvet and I have to say it was incredible. We accompanied these with a side order of fried artichokes. To pair with the food we chose a fabulous 2022 Azienda Agricola Casagori from Pienza. For Dessert I enjoyed the Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream with meringue and hot chocolate sauce. We finished with a coffee to end a truly amazing evening of food , wine and very friendly service. This restaurant to me is an absolute must visit and I will definitely be back the next time I’m...
Read moreA Truly Enjoyable Culinary Experience! I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. The food was excellent, each dish a testament to quality and flavor. Our large group of eleven, with diverse tastes, found ample options on the menu to satisfy everyone. What a rare and welcome find. What truly set this place apart was the exceptional service. Despite arriving without a reservation on a packed night (a clear sign of its popularity, especially when nearby restaurants sat half-empty), the courteous staff didn't just turn us away. Instead, they thoughtfully advised us of a likely 30-minute wait and suggested we return. It was a testament to their professionalism and a wait that was absolutely worth it! The atmosphere was vibrant and bustling, a stark contrast to other establishments in the vicinity, underscoring its appeal. Furthermore, the pricing was transparent, with no hidden charges, which is always appreciated. Overall, it was a genuinely enjoyable meal and a fantastic dining experience from start to finish. We'll...
Read moreWhen we first came to Florence three years ago, the hotel down the street recommended this restaurant. I remember the pici was great. Yesterday, we had another great meal there, this time it was the branzino and paccheri finished off with a glass of dessert wine and a tiramisu. Delicious flavors and simple uncomplicated, much appreciated, freshly prepared food. Service is perfect. Our italian friend swears this is the best restaurant for “real italian food” as he puts it. I have to agree.
Update: went back two other times with different people. The tagliata with rosemary and green peppercorns (listed as green pepper on the menu) was outstanding as was the filet with vin santo. Also enjoyed the polpette with lemon for a lighter dish on a hot evening. Plates polished clean. Even the kids...
