Trattoria Gigi Di Lippi Luciano is an excellent restaurant that is family-owned and is the epitome of Italian dining. My wife and I were in Florence for three evenings and we ate here on our first and third nights for dinner - we loved it that much! The staff is very courteous and friendly, and while I didn't know much Italian, I used what I knew and they helped me learn new words from the menu to improve my knowledge of the language. That being said, the food is wonderful! The homemade pasta noodles are perfectly done, and the wild boar meat sauce is simply delicious. Our second night we also got a steak with porcini mushrooms and it was out of this world! Desserts are nothing short of pure joy; the chocolate cake is a must. The second time we came in they remembered us and pleasantly greeted us and provided great service as they did the first night, and after our lengthy dinner we stayed and spoke with the owner and his sons who run the restaurant and found them very welcoming, friendly, and overall to be really great people who made us feel at home and led to us having a new favorite restaurant. If you're in the area do yourself a favor and go here for a meal; they have authentic Italian cuisine that is perfectly cooked, friendly staff, great service and an environment that'll make you gladly stay longer and...
Read moreThis restaurant was recommended to us by hotel David. At first we were a little surprised because we were the only ones in there. But we were also in there at 1 PM. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was not overpriced, it was just right. We had ravioli with mushrooms and a special fish ravioli with shrimp and mussels. We also had the house red wine. I can say that both dishes were absolutely great. For dessert, we asked Ricardo, who is one of the brothers and the cook, what was the best dessert. He brought out this lemon cake. We both had a piece. And it was to die for! It was so light. The lemon favor it just right .. not overpowering.
To those people who sent a review of less than 4 or 5 stars, I would say that perhaps they were looking for something more that they are used to.
This is not your normal Italian cuisine that you would get in the USA. It is a little different and original. The ambience, the food, and the owner with his sons, Francisco and Ricardo, make it well worth a great place to eat.
We loved it and will be going back again before we...
Read moreWe absolutely loved our dinner experience at Trattoria Gigi. Family owned, the father & sons run the front of house and are warm, receptive and take the time to make your visit special. I had THE BEST steak of my LIFE here and I've spent too much time daydreaming of coming back to have it again. Don't even get me started on their bread. I'm not one to usually eat the table bread, but we were extra hungry so I grabbed a piece and WOW. I'm not joking, the bread was absolutely delicious and obviously freshly made we quickly devoured every piece. I asked them to serve me whatever red wine they recommended, it was fantastic, and the ambiance was romantic intimate and just perfect. Loved that it was farther away from the touristy areas so you know you're getting quality & authentic food and it wasn't as busy (we loved our stay at the nearby Hotel David and they had recommended this restaurant). We cannot wait to visit Florence again and hope to come back to...
