Disappointing Service, Great Food

I used to come to this restaurant often, especially on weekends to relax. The food is consistently delicious — full credit to the chef, 100 out of 100. However, this recent visit left me truly disappointed due to the poor service.

No one came to take our order at the table, so we walked up to the counter. Even though the staff was just one or two arm-lengths away from us and we were standing face to face, the server continued chatting with her colleague and ignored us, even after I said multiple times that I wanted to order.

When she finally acknowledged me, I had to repeat my main dish three times before she started inputting it into the system. Then I ordered a latte macchiato freddo, and I had to say it five times. She asked me twice again, and although I stayed calm, she frowned at me — which honestly felt unfair. Why should I get a frustrated expression for patiently repeating my order several times?

The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, but I had already eaten half of it before the drink came. It’s not ideal to eat bread-based dishes without something to drink. I returned to the counter to remind them, saying: “I already ordered a latte macchiato freddo.”

Five minutes later, the drink finally came — but it was hot.

I asked politely if they could add ice, and the staff replied, “You ordered a latte macchiato.” I said again that I had asked for freddo (cold). She insisted that “latte macchiato is hot.” I clarified: “I asked for latte macchiato freddo.” She said, “That’s just an iced latte.” I replied, “Exactly. But this one is hot — I want the cold version.” She said, “Iced latte is the same as latte macchiato freddo.” I answered, “Yes, exactly.”

Finally, I received the correct drink. Thank you — but it really shouldn’t be this difficult.

Non so Petar cos’abbia scritto ma nella mia recensione mi son limitato a parlare della MIA esperienza e del cibo che ho ordinato io, non ho nemmeno guardato cos’hanno ordinato gli altri. Stare da voi è stato un vero e proprio incubo, di quelli che rovinano una mattinata: non me ne potrebbe fregare di meno se vi è dispiaciuto dei quaranta minuti di aspirapolvere, potevate usarlo in un altro momento, magari non mentre il locale era pieno. Invece di prendervela tanto assaggiate i piatti che mettete fuori, ci fate una figura del cavolo a rispondere offesi. Per i bambini naturalmente la colpa non è vostra, l’ho menzionato per dipingere un’immagine chiara dell’esperienza associata a quel tormento acustico che non poteva proprio essere rimandato. Forse me ne sarei dovuto andare non appena ci siamo seduti e l’avete acceso, così adesso saremmo tutti felici e io non starei con un mattone sullo stomaco. Che la mia recensione vi stia bene o no a me frega assai, ma magari prendete in considerazione l’idea di non assordare i clienti e di mangiare voi stessi i piatti che offrite, così da capire se andrebbero inumiditi un po’ di più. il ristorante è vostro non mio.]

Forse sono stato sfortunato con la disastrosa coincidenza di disagi che hanno deciso di palesarsi tutti insieme, ma fare colazione qui è stata un’esperienza infernale. Nel luogo con la struttura più acusticamente assordante mai concepita dall’uomo, per massimizzare il nostro comfort e incentivare la clientela alla conversazione, lo staff ha preso la solenne decisione di tenere acceso l’aspirapolvere più rumoroso esistente sul mercato, per tutta la durata della nostra permanenza (era ancora acceso quando siamo andati via). Il caos, amplificato dalla clientela invasiva e rumorosa, non era aiutato dal volume della musica.

Speravo in un’atmosfera più pacata per una colazione tranquilla, ma è stata un’ininterrotta sinfonia di rumori e pianti di bambini e musica e ancora rumori. Ho voluto aspettare di assaggiare l’ordine prima di scrivere una recensione, che dieci minuti dopo essermi seduto avevo già mentalmente il dito sul grilletto di Google (e in più di un’occasione ero tentato di uscire). Ho ordinato quello che essenzialmente dovrebbe essere un grilled cheese, con bacon e uova strapazzate. Mi aspettavo un piatto con il toast al formaggio e un contorno di uova e bacon, ma dalla cucina è uscito un capolavoro brutalista: un unico mattone di pane su di un piatto vuoto, asciutto come il deserto e comprendente di tutto quello che c’era scritto nel menù. Abbiamo faticato a finirlo perché i bocconi scendevano a fatica e non saremmo stati in grado di concludere l’impresa se non avessimo ordinato altro da bere. Ora sono a casa attaccato alla bottiglia d’acqua.
