We had read fantastic reviews of Fuoco Matto near our Hotel so had to try it out! It only opens at 7pm but when we arrived at 7:40pm we had to wait until 8.30om for a table which shows how popular the restaurant is! The restaurant is spacious and modern with a small section outside for alfresco dining. We were presented with a small glass of prosecco on arrival followed by focaccia bread with rocket, tomatoes and mozzarella, which were both complimentary.
We opted for the risotto of the day (seafood) and pasta with nduja paste. Both meals were impressive – the risotto had great flavour and texture and the pasta was al dente with the spice from the nduja not overpowering the dish.
To finish the meal we had the most amazing vanilla baked cheesecake. It was literally melt in your mouth delicious! Oh and maybe a couple of shots of limoncello too…
The staff were extremely lovely and had a good joke with us. I absolutely recommend this restaurant – fantastic food, lovely interiors and amazing they give you some complimentary nibbles and fizz! The bill for two including a glass of wine came to very...
Read moreMy wife and I went here for dinner on our last night in Florence. The staff and chef exceeded our expectations. We had a DOCG Chianti Classico wine, appetizers of beef tartare and squid/hummus, pasta plates of spicy macaroni and ravioli, for the main course, young pig and a pizza, and for dessert, the cheesecake. Throughout the meal, our waiter was engaging, fun, and provided information and answers to our questions, with just the right amount of engagement. He was a pleasure to get to know. The food was original, diverse, and full of flavor. It was obvious that the chef was letting the high quality ingredients speak for themselves. The food was not only of a very high quality, but also well presented. I found the chef to be giving us a modern take on the classic flavors of the region, which was both refreshing and fun. The restaurant itself provides a fun environment that walks a fine line - the atmosphere is not pretentious, and also not cheap. I wish that I had a restaurant like this closer to home. I highly recommend that you visit Fuoco Matto if you...
Read moreFuoco Matto was around the corner from our apartment and got recommended by other friends for pizza. Sadly, we made the mistake of ordering a steak.
After a full day of walking and it being our final night in Florence, I wanted one last steak. We’ve had amazing steaks in Florence on various occasions. A well rated restaurant, with locals and a solid atmosphere held promise. We ended up with, by far, one of the worst pieces of beef I’ve had the displeasure of eating in a restaurant. How did the kitchen not notice? How did the server bring it out and not care? I was too tired to send it back.
The gorgeous piece of meat was completely ruined by careless preparation. It tasted like a steak that was microwaved. No proper grill marks (indicates a grill that was too cold or no contact with the grilling surface), it tasted steamed. No caramelized fat, just bad. All this for close to 100 euros.
Other dishes were forgettable. If you come, stick with the pizza, that seems to be a...
