Food is good, but service is below expectation. We arrived there at 10:15pm on a Saturday. Restaurant closes at 11:30pm. There was only a group of about 6 or 7 people still eating and drinking. We were immediately seated after being inquired if we had a reservation, which we didn’t. It was our first time in this place. We found it near by our hotel after a quick search on google and following some good reviews. Server brought menus and left a couple of small glasses of house wine, without being asked. No introduction or any kind of talk to help us. She gave us a few minutes and came back to see what we wanted. I asked a few questions about the menu, such as what’s this restaurant famous for. We received answers like “for everything” (???). We asked a few more minutes and we promptly received a notice: we close at 10:30. Really? Well... we then hurried up and placed the order. We got our dishes pretty quick, but no smile, no courtesy, no “enjoy it!”. Food was good, which saves the 2 stars. From that point on she basically forgot we were in the restaurant, only giving attention to the other table with Italians. She took our plates after we finished. We didn’t want desert. Although she knew we were ready to leave, she took probably another 20 minutes or more to bring the check, even though we had pointed out to the other guy, who seemed to be the chef or owner, that we wanted the check. Minor detail: she charged those glasses with taste of wine and the water, which seemed not to be a new bottle. I don’t want to think we were discriminated for being foreigner tourists. Hope this was just a bad day for the server. We have been loving...

We were seated in the small dining room, near bar counter, cashier and the kitchen, however no ... smoke, besides the A/C was efficient despite the very high outside temperature. What struck us was the generous optional steak menu at €25/- inclusive of a rich typical Tuscan starter, a ½ Kg real Florentine steak ( we found it delicious, even better than those of much costlier eateries ) with roasted potatoes, and - dulcis in fundo - an abondant glass of Vinsanto and several Cantucci. The à la carte menu was interesting and representative of the local cuisine, without confusing with too many dishes. Interesting and yummy choice of house desserts, which we couldn't resist. House wine remarkable for quality/ price, and affordable draught water. Our dinner was even more enjoyable because of the friendly service of the two ladies running... the show: listen to their advice. As we were there after the rush time, we experienced a familiar ambience. Guests of the other room settled their bill at the POS near us; they seemed to be regulars, meaning this is not a place just for tourists. The total bill was a fraction of what we usually pay in Florence (12 dinners in 2 years). Our advice: better book in advance, or use The Fork, avoiding the risk to...
Read moreWell, my time in Firenze (Florence) is coming to an end, and unfortunately, the last restaurant l eat at was the best this far , not only had the best food, but the atmosphere was undeniably great, the service was impeccable, l honestly didn't want to leave, it came to the point that l was asking the waitress Mariana, to surprise me, just bring it on, I'll have no problem with it, the food, the coffee , wine, all were served with a smile and family atmosphere, if you're in Italy and are looking for the place, this is it, the prices are most reasonable, even if it was more, no matter, it's well worth it. So l'm recommending this as the go to restaurant of choice and when you go there, you too will feel like family, make no mistakes while here to try this Trattoria Guelfa you won't be disappointed, bring the family ..after all...while there, you will be family , they even cut the desert into two pieces and made each piece differently mmmm it was good...
