La Focacceria degli Orsini — Restaurant in Galatina

This was one of the few open places in Galatina we could find early on a Saturday afternoon and we decided to give it a try because there were quite a few people there. We were greeted by a very friendly girl who invited us inside to check out all the different dishes they had. There were plenty of vegetarian dishes but we decided to try the chickpea & bread salad which was amazing, the green beans, and the tomato focaccia which was a bit too salty for our taste. Best meal we had in Italy!! We stopped here on a bike tour with Marco, our tour guide, and were so impressed with the food. Home cooked, authentic and fresh! The menu changes daily, but we had the roasted chicken, carrots, tomatoes, mozzarella and rice stuffed peppers and foccacia and everything was sublime. Wish we could have eaten here more than once! This was the food we were looking for during our vacation in Italy and was definitely a highlight...

Quando il cibo é amore, ha il sapore del paradiso! Ho scoperto per caso la Focacceria degli Orsini, il primo giorno che sono arrivata a Galatina, all’ inizio di questo torrido luglio. Siamo stati accolti dalla dolcezza avvolgente di Monica. Ed é stato amore a prima vista. E a primo assaggio! Quello stesso giorno abbiamo conosciuto anche Adriano, l’altra anima di questo posto incredibile. Si chiama Focacceria ma in realtà ci trovi molto più delle focacce (spettacolari!) La cucina é come quella di casa: semplice, tradizionale. Costruita con competenza e sapienza dalla scelta degli ortaggi alla cottura del pane. Nel corso del mese sono stata più volte a mangiare lì… meno di quelle che avrei voluto! Avrei mangiato lì tutti i giorni! Una volta, in particolare, sono arrivata con il mal di pancia (mi succede a volte per il gran caldo) e mi é passato mangiando. Un’altra volta, ci sono arrivata decisamente arrabbiata e mangiando ho fatto pace con me stessa e con il mondo. Il locale é semplice, i tavoli all’esterno sono vecchie porte riciclate di una bellezza commovente. Se cerchi un locale elegante e pretenzioso, o nouvelle cuisine, ti consiglio di andare altrove. Se ti piace sentirti in famiglia, a casa, se ti piace il gusto pieno dei piatti tradizionali, allora sì che questo é il posto...
