TALE OF AN OVERPRICED TOURIST TRAP ORECCHIETTE : Being from Puglia, and taking my companion for the first time to Gallipoli, i wanted to give a shot to this orecchiette place so well promoted. As the orecchiette menu was quite extensive, i was looking forward to try some orecchiette revisited, as this seemed the focus of the place. We tried both a traditional orecchiette with meat and tomato souce, and a more revisited dish based on pistachio and mortadella. The classic version was fine, respectful of the tradition, but honestly overpriced. Flavor was well calibrated, but nothing of its component was justifying a 14 euro price for a dish of truly basic ingredients. Same dish in any other Gallipoli restaurant or neighborhood not surpass 11 euros. The more revisited dish, the pistachio and mortadella combo was, honestly, a true speculation. 17 euros for a dish of orecchiette which was enjoyable , but far away for amount and type of ingredients , and quantities, to justify the price, ended up being felt as a robbery. The day before, we visited a lovely trattoria near Gallipoli, which served us a fresh pasta dish, based on swordfish ragu, cherry fresh tomatoes and premium cheese, and it did not surpassed the 13 euros. Ok the Gallipoli costs, but aggressive pricing like these are beyond reason. Also, honestly, the service of staff it’s kind predatory. The staff advice/push to “add” components to the basic dishes, but not for the sake of the customers. More and more I’m seeing this “burrata” fever in my region, pushing burrata everywhere, also where it does not make sense at all. Orecchiette with ragu and burrata??!! Also I’m reading the reviews and I’m seeing that this is not an isolated behavior and are charging 7 euros for burrata, an intentional theft…...
Read moreWe had a very mixed experience here. The food that we had was great, but the service was really bad.
The biggest issue was how slow the service was, it took about 35-40 minutes for our pasta dishs to come. We then waited another 35 minutes for our next dishes to come, and when we asked how long they'd take, we were told 20-30 minutes because of an error in the kitchen. So in total we sat for just over 1 and half hours for a dish of pasta and a glass of wine.
This wasn't just us, another table next to us also complained about how long things took, and also left early cancelling their other dishes. We also overheard another table complaining they'd waited an hour for a dish that turned up cold.
My other issue is that a €5 cover charge is added to the bill for nothing. Usually, one would get a small basket of bread, or torelli, but here its just a €5 charge for nothing.
I can't say the dishes we had weren't delicious, they were, but the poor atmosphere, and long wait leave a...
Read morePay attention to the weater of this restaurant, it was a real scham! Yesterday we ate at this restaurant but the weater really made us pay much more than what was the original price. For example, we ordered two dishes of meatballs and pasta that should had been 13 eur each but this weater told us to change pasta that cost more without telling us. Furthermore he told us to add also burrata to the dish without telling us that it cost more money. We paid 7 eur extra only for the burrata which is crazy high price for this kind of cheese! And in the end we paid more than 22 eur for each dish instead of 13 eur that was original price! We will never go back to this restaurant, the weater was very dishonest and just wanted to take as much money from us as possible. If you can, avoid this restaurant. There are other restaurants much better in Gallipoli with better food, more honest staff and...
