Our overall experience with Le Rune was positive, for this review I'd like to start off with the positive notes, then some negatives, lastly I'd like to sum up my review.
The positives:
The service is very good, some of the best I've seen. The crew is often present, they see you, and they are quick to service. There was little time between sitting down, getting drinks, ordering food, and recieving that too.
The house wine, we had the red wine, was fantastic. It was mild and had a pleasing mouthfeel, at least according to our tastes.
The deserts was very good. I had the cheese cake, my fiancé had the apple-cake. While neither tasted or looked like your traditional apple or cheese cake, the twists thay had done only enchanced the experience. The cheese cake was practically only foamy cheese, not very sweet, with a citrucy taste, with cookie-crumble and brown sugar next to it. It was fantastic. As for the apple cake, my fiancé only let me taste once but it was mostly caramelized apples, some dough, and some very well tasting ice-cream on the side.
The location was very pleasing too. Quited, with a calm atmosphere.
The negatives:
We only really found one negative with the experience: the main dish. I had the slices of black angus, she had the pasta with clams. While the plating was very pleasing, they both had the same issue; lack of taste. In both instances we percieved a lack of spices and/or cooking techniques that enchanced the experience, like smoking the angus meat or cooking the pasta with herbs or other flavour-changing ingredients. We might have been unlucky and ordered the only two dishes with this lack of flavor on the meny, but this is what we ordered and base our review on.
Conclusion:
As previously stated, our experience was overall positive. The crew was professional and kind. The only, and I stress, ONLY negative we found was that we were unfortunate and had a bland main dish. This...
Read moreThis review is going to sound excessive, but I promise mean every word. I have had, without a doubt, the best food I’ve ever eaten in my life at this restaurant. Yes, I’ve eaten in Italy before, in many cities. This is better than any other place I’ve been. Ever. I honestly don’t understand how they can take dishes that should be so simple and make them so exceptional. I did not know that caramelized onions were an art form, but they definitely are. They have a parfait that I swear is made with cocaine. Nothing is too heavy, too oily, too dry, too ANYTHING. It’s all very well balanced and the portions are perfect. I would take a train to Genoa from anywhere in Europe JUST to eat here. Actually I did do that. I stayed an extra night in Italy just so I could go back. Everyone on the staff is lovely, however I do need to mention Mario in particular. He has been absolutely outstanding. His suggestions are honest and he WILL steer you to the right dish if you’re waffling. There is no wishy-washiness about him. If you’re like me and you have no idea what wine to pair with anything, he’s got you covered. Both the white and the Prosecco he suggested were perfect with my meals and definitely were the best wine I’ve ever had (and I live in the SF Bay Area). He also knew my name because he saw it on my suitcase tag and REMEMBERED ME three days later. Ridiculous.
If you want to eat something that will make every other food you ever put in your face feel disappointing, go here. Even if you think that sounds sad, go here anyway. There is simply no way...

We don’t understand Italian so we just stared at the menus when they arrived and even with Google lens we were still struggling. In the end, we waved our white flag and asked our friendly waiter what he would recommend for us. He explained each dish and we ordered the three below based on our green light for seafood:
Starter to share: Calamaro CBT scottato ripieno con salsa basilico (seared CBT squid stuffed with basil sauce)
Main 1: Tortelli di capasanto con brunoise di verdure, ragu di gamberi e gocce di burata (scallop tortelli with vegetable brunoise, shrimp ragu and burata drops)
Main 2: Orecchiette con vongole, zucchini e picadilly (Orecchiette with clams, zucchini and piccadilly)
Dessert (our own choice): cheese cake with grape sauce and cocoa and hazelnut crumble
Everything was absolutely scrumptious and fresh bar the strand of hair we found in our starter. We informed the waitress who apologised and said she would let the kitchen know. (No discounts were given but I was not expecting any.)
All in all, it was a gem of a find at a good time too and we would highly recommend visiting if you are...
