Ristorante Giotto al Bristol Palace — Restaurant in Genoa

Food was 5 *star, service was 1 *star, and atmosphere 1 *star. The food was very very good, however our experience got ruined by the service and the atmosphere. We were sat outside on the terrace, and we waited about 25 minutes after we sat down before they even brought us menus and asked us if we wanted to drink something. then again we further waited to put our order in, and throughout the night it continued to be a disaster. At one point we got our meal, which was a seafood dish, and I was looking for some lemons. And I kept on looking for the server to ask for lemons, but nobody was around or came by to ask us anything or how we like the food. Even ordering dessert, same thing, took forever for anybody to come and give us any attention. I was very irritated by it. Also when other people at nearby tables got their seafood dish, same as ours, they actually had lemons on their plate, and we did not. At the table beside us, they had the same meal as us, they also got the proper knife to use for the seafood and we did not, they also got their water poured for them, and we did not. Overall it was a terrible terrible disappointment, and even though the food is good. I would never go eat here again. I gave 1 star for the atmosphere, because it was a covered terrace, and there were 7 tables that were occupied and at one table somebody was smoking the whole time, making everybody at the other tables uncomfortable and all I could taste was the smell of the smoke. Somebody from another table, actually mentioned that to the server, but they didn’t really do...

Bad experience... ruined anniversary... I booked at Giotto to celebrate our wedding anniversary and my wife's birthday, believing that I would for sure give my beloved wife a unique experience. In the two phone calls made during the booking phase, when the reception staff of the Bristol hotel answered (both times a different person), I specified that it was a special dinner, and I needed a floral arrangement at the table and a small cake. I was also asked if we had any particular food allergies, and the message would be passed on to the chef. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the restaurant, nothing of what was promised to me by phone was in place 😔 There was no floral decoration at the table and none of the staff knew about the cake, including the chef. I was offered a glass of wine as an immediate apology, when the bill came. Food was average. So we were very much upset as our anniversary was ruined... I was really looking forward to make my wife happy on this special occasion, but instead it turned out to be like a regular evening... Very bad place for celebrating your special romantic occasion... There is obvious lack of communication and staff doesn't really care about your special request even though when I called and asked, the receptionist said that everything would be done for our special day... I DO NOT recommend this restaurant especially for your special celebrations.

Brutta esperienza... anniversario rovinato... Ho prenotato presso Giotto per festeggiare il nostro anniversario di matrimonio e il compleanno di mia moglie, convinto che avrei sicuramente regalato alla mia amata moglie un'esperienza unica. Nelle due telefonate fatte in fase di prenotazione, dove ha risposto il personale della reception dell'hotel Bristol (entrambe le volte una persona diversa), ho specificato che si trattava di una cena speciale, e che avevo bisogno di una composizione floreale al tavolo e di una piccola torta. Mi è stato anche chiesto se avessimo particolari allergie alimentari e che il messaggio sarebbe stato inoltrato allo chef. Purtroppo, quando siamo arrivati al ristorante, nulla di quanto promessomi telefonicamente era al suo posto 😔 Non c'era nessuna decorazione floreale al tavolo e nessuno del personale sapeva della torta, incluso lo chef. Mi è stato offerto un bicchiere di vino come scusa immediata, quando è arrivato il conto. Il cibo era nella media. Eravamo molto arrabbiati perché il nostro anniversario era stato rovinato... Non vedevo l'ora di rendere felice mia moglie in questa occasione speciale, invece si è rivelata una normale serata... Un posto davvero pessimo per festeggiare un'occasione romantica speciale... C'è una chiara mancanza di comunicazione e al personale non importa molto delle tue richieste speciali, anche se quando ho chiamato e chiesto, la receptionist ha detto che avrebbero fatto di tutto per il nostro giorno speciale... NON consiglio questo ristorante, soprattutto per le vostre...

The restaurant is conveniently located on the 2nd floor of the Bristol Palace in a nice part of town. The stately entrance and dining halls create a sophisticated ambience. The bread basket is a generous size (although the focaccia was entirely overseasoned with rock salt which needed to be scraped off before eating). The antipasti were excellent - we had the mussels, prawns, and cappon magro. The local wine recommended by the waiter also complemented the food well. The pasta (basil pasta and seafood pasta) was fine, but slightly lacked richness in flavour. We were unfortunately disappointed with the main course - beef entrecote. The ends were completely overdone and the dish lacked a sauce, gravy or jus to help swallow the tough and chewy meat (the balsamic reduction was insufficient) .
