La Sirena — Restaurant in Giardini-Naxos

We have been looking for the perfect location for a long time because we wanted 1) to be close to the sandy beach 2) to have a direct view of the sea 3) to have a beautiful view of Mount Etna 4) to be close to very good and tasty restaurants. 5) We also wanted to be close to Catania airport. All these factors came together at La Sirena. On booking we could read some bad comments about this place, but from the location it seemed that this is bullshit and you really can't find a better place that combines quality and value for money. Also, the hosts are the most polite and open people you could ever meet. They run the restaurant on the ground floor of La Sirena and we must say that the food, especially the pizza, grilled frutti di mare and traditional Sicilian bread, is simply delicious. Their business started in the 50s of the XX century, so it's a bit of history and we'll definitely be back soon. As for the breakfast, it is a traditional continental breakfast with croissants, jam, chocolate, cake, fruit, coffee and juice, so if you are looking for an English breakfast, you will definitely find an English...

Recensisco con una stella perché non è possibile meno. Capitiamo (malauguratamente) in questo posto per prendere qualcosa al volo, inizialmente la cameriera (scorbutica come tutti lì dentro), ci comunica che avremmo dovuto aspettare 30/40 minuti e si dilegua (il locale era semi vuoto, solo tre tavoli occupati). Chiediamo quindi ulteriori informazioni sul perché di tanta attesa alla presunta proprietaria, che ci rassicura dicendo che non avremmo aspettato tanto. Ci sediamo. Una porzione di patatine (bruciata) arrivata dopo almeno 20 minuti (ci siamo dovute alzare noi dal tavolo per prendere ketchup e maionese, perché il cameriere aveva comunicato che le avrebbe portate ma si è perso in chiacchiere con altre persone), chiediamo di velocizzare le portate e ci viene detto che si sono confusi perché avevamo ordinato le patatine (questa non l’abbiamo capita); chiediamo di spostarci dentro visto i buoni 40 minuti di attesa e il vento gelido, e ci viene detto no dalla figlia della proprietaria perché i tavoli erano apparecchiati (ma perché di solito si cena nei tavoli sparecchiati?) Comunque veniamo sistemate in uno pseudo tavolino senza posate, bicchieri ecc (veniamo invitate a prendere quest’ultime dal nostro primo tavolo, della serie, apparecchiatevi sole.) Finalmente questo film horror sembra giungere al termine quando arrivano le pizze, bianche che più bianche non si può, vuote, e visibilmente non lievitate. Deduco che quest’ultime siano lievitate successivamente nel nostro stomaco, dato che il giorno dopo abbiamo dovuto assumere Biochetasi e malox come fossero caramelle. Insomma, se capitate qui casualmente mi dispiace per voi, ma se ci andate di vostra spontanea volontà lasciatemi dire che siete dei folli. E che non mi venga detto che era il 14 sera, perché c’erano solo tre tavoli occupati al nostro arrivo. Tralasciando la sgarbatezza di tutto il personale, la poca pulizia (bicchieri usurati e wc inutilizzabile), insomma “ristorante” che sembra come già detto il posto perfetto per girare un film...
