After spending 3 days in Cinque Terre, where focaccerias draw lines out the door, I’m glad I found this peaceful, modern and infinitely more delicious place for focaccia sandwiches. I’m literally writing this review on the train immediately after finishing half of the Ligurian (caprese with prosciutto on focaccia). Not only was the sandwich generously portioned and possibly one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had (and I’m not even big on sandwiches), the menu was thoughtfully and whimsically curated, the decor and branding were on point, and the service was thoughtful and kind. Did I also mention that the owners are both female, with one being Italian and the other Filipina?

So if you’re in La Spezia and need to pick up some food near the train station, do yourself a favor: skip the gross train station food and come to...

I’ve been seeing Laura’s videos pop up on my TikTok page for a while, so blessed to have been able to support and try out her delicious food!!! Omg so amazing staff all so so friendly! Started the morning at Cioa Baby! then came back for lunch at Sal’s and everything was so amazing we had The Hammer, Remi G, and the caprese one with prosciutto one without! The best sandwiches I had all trip! Not to mention the soft serve ice cream with olive oil and sea salt sprinkled and the cookies!!! Unreal! As well as the lavender lemonade!! Laura and her friend/ co-owner who I wish I got her name were the absolute sweetest people!! So much love and care goes into their food and you can taste it! They are all so welcoming! Thank you for this wonderful experience!! So...

We stopped into Sal’s Paninoteca Moderna and were immediately greeted by the kindest woman behind the counter. She was incredibly warm, helpful, and made us feel so welcome. The sandwiches were outstanding — packed with fresh, high-quality ingredients and full of flavor. You can really taste the care that goes into everything.

While we were there, a demanding family came in and she handled the situation with such grace and patience. It was clear she works incredibly hard and takes great pride in what she does. Her calm demeanor and professionalism were impressive and only made us love the place more.

Between the delicious food and the heartfelt service, this spot is a true local treasure. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in La Spezia — you won’t be...

I have been to La Spezia many times and have always wondered where the good paninos were! I went back for the first time this year and was walking down from the train station and noticed Sal's. Thank god I went in they have the most delicious paninos I've ever had. The Hammer maybe my favorite sandwich of all time as I don't think there is a better combo than salami & eggplant! I went multiple times during my trip and was able to try almost all the paninos. Here is a pic of the classic Liguerian Caprese with their very social media ready Mangia tiles. The best part is they are on your way to the train station and have to go aperol spritzes!

Such a lovely spot! The service is warm, friendly, and truly delightful. They serve excellent panini — my only mistake was thinking a whole one would be too much, so I ordered a half… and ended up asking for the second half anyway! I had the Ligurian Caprese in its vegetarian version and declared it the best panini I’ve ever had. Super fresh ingredients, plenty of vegetables, and perfectly balanced seasoning. It’s our second time here, and we’ll definitely be back next time we’re in La Spezia!
