Pescheria Con Cottura — Restaurant in Lecce

Disclaimer: we did not actually end up eating there and i will never go there if given the chance. We tried twice - as the place came recommended. 1st time we have been turned away at the door after a “do you have reservation”? 2nd time i managed to make a reservation over their “the fork” website and i never received a confirmation, but we went there to try. It seemed that there was a reservation and we could have maybe had dinner.

So? We were asked to stay outside and wait. At some point someone came and asked us to choose our fish. We were “äh?” And then he understood that we don’t know what he means. He very (very) fast tried to explain the way their restaurant works and then i asked if they have any explanation of the dishes in English. Don’t get me wrong, i would have loved to eat there as i was super excited when i saw all their fresh fish and seafood. But you have to choose some dishes (1st and 2nd course) and if you are not italian you have a little chance of understanding what those dishes contain. And there was nobody to help us or translate even if i asked for help. So for their complete lack of interest in us actually eating there, they get a star. I do, however, believe that the food may be good . Went here on a recommendation for a fresh fish restaurant, greeted by a very enthusiastic chap, I asked if they had a fish soup , yes and a fresh unknown fish was chosen on his recommendation, my partner wanted octopus which he preferred grilled, a side salad for me and linguine with mixed seafood, upsold some wine and water and sat down to be dazzled, partners octopus arrived, over- cooked, no seasoning , weird yellow sauce decorating one half of plate that had no taste whatsoever - massive let down, my salad was appalling, chunks of tomatoes with ice berg, then the soup arrived, it was a whole fish with bones on a plate , when queried if ordered soup was told this was the soup !!! My partner graciously swapped dishes but the linguine was the worst , mixed seafood what a joke , a few prawns and few mussels and one piece of squid , £65 euros for this less than mediocre offering , the waitress tried her best to listen when we complained however the lady owner just shrugged her shoulders ,...

Food was good, no doubts. But the rating of 2 stars because: you don’t get a menu you have to go to the main desk and choose directly before getting seated. For indecisive people (like me sometimes) it is stressing since you have to make a choice on the spot and people queuing up behind you stresses you out even more. service staff is very mediocre. Nobody came to fill up wine glasses. Side dish came 30min after main course dinner reservation done the same day, and when we arrived our name was nowhere to be found. Got a table anyhow but were treated as if it was our fault. The person in charge of the reservations was very rude and confrontational instead of clearing up the situation right away. - they have two restaurants but with the same phone number, so probably we got booked in the other restaurant.
