So disappointed after a recommendation we booked this restaurant, and when we booked the owner gave us a friendly smile and a nod of acknowledgement… when we arrived for our booking that’s when it all went downhill… we made our order … but while waiting for our first course another table arrived about 20 minutes after making our order … then about twenty minutes later the second table were served their meals… we then asked where our order was abs was advised it was just coming. We then waited another thirty minutes and two plates came out. One of the orders was completely wrong and our first course hadn’t even been served … we were asked to confirm our main course choices but still no starter..we could not be bothered at this stage in advising them that we hadn’t received the starter.. regarding the main courses the food was not that good the tripe dish was bland and the stew was ok.. the roast potatoes and pepper side were good though.. after finishing our meal the plates were eventually taken away… we waited but nobody came with a dessert or aperitif menu.. after 30 minutes we just asked for the bill, which took another ten minutes and was incorrect, as they had charged us for the starter which we hadn’t received… when I advised that the bill was incorrect as we hadn’t received the starter the response was that they had been very busy on a Tuesday evening.. I then pointed out that the table next to us arrived 20 minutes after us and were served had had their meal and a reset before we had our main courses… the bill was corrected but no apology was made or even an offer of a complimentary aperitif… really disappointed and I know that the person who recommended the restaurant will be...

Closed on Sunday.

Saturday 7 September 2019 to Saturday 14 September 2019

Dinner on Tuesday 10 September 2019 We made reservations for 8.00 PM and turned up a bit early. This impressive little restaurant was almost empty but quickly filled up as the evening progressed. One bottle of water, one litre of house red at €12.00, one starter of fagioli all'olio (white beans) at €4.50, one starter of ceci all'olio (chick peas) at €4.50, one main of pici calcio e pepe (thick spaghetti in pecorino cheese and pepper, a simple dish that if done right is wobderful) at €10.00,, one main of ravioli casarecce con zucca gialla (homemade ravioli with yellow pumpkins) at €12.00 and a side order of mixed salad (this was a really big bowl of salad with big chunks of fresh tonatoes) at €5.00 and two espressos cost €56.50.

Friday 8 September 2017 to Friday 15 September 2017

Lunch on Saturday 9 September 2017 This is a busy restaurant with impressive vaulted brick ceilings just outside the famous Piazza dell'Anfiteatro. One bottle of water, one litre of good house red for €12.00, one starter of white beans in oil, one starter of mixed vegetables baked in the oven, two main courses of spelt soup (AMAZING!) and two coffees...

There are many beautiful restaurants in Lucca but Osteria Baralla has been a favorite from my first trip to Lucca 5 years ago. The inside is beautifully decorated, but they also have very nice outdoor seating. If you want an authentic menu for the area, this is a good restaurant to experience.

Service is very prompt and the food is always good! Some of the staff speak English, and the menu is in English and Italian.

Usually when I go, I order the Testaroli con Pesto and Tiramisù for dessert. I've also had the Gnocchi Sorrentina and "Grigio da Toscana" (Pork Chop). I don't eat much meat so I tend to prefer the vegetarian options, but the pork was very good, and my parents would agree as we came back a second night just for that. The menu has a very good selection of authentic dishes from the area, and most of the menu is made in house! Pricing is reasonable for dinner considering the surroundings, but I can tell you every penny is worth the experience. They do charge a "coperto" which I believe is 2 euros, which they list as a table tax and bread charge.

Highly recommended! You won't be...

2021: Two years later, another trip to Luca, another visit to Osteria Baralla and I still stand by my previous note. Word for word. Prices are a bit on a high end for an Osteria with its (very much pleasant) simplicity but I guess this goes hand in hand with the location. 2019: This was our second time in Lucca and second time in Osteria Baralla, a trattoria with a very local look and feel and familiar (at least for us Mediterranean people) flavors and tastes. My luchesan pasta was awesome and the tiramisu was to die for. Special thanks to the waiters that kept bringing us Parmesan cheese and were very polite and also very quick to move us inside when it started raining out of the blue. That said, last year my experience in Osteria Baralla was completely different: the people were rude and almost bothered by us being their customers and the food was below average. Maybe it was a particularly bad day.

Situated right by Piazza Anfiteatro, Osteria Baralla has welcomed guests since 1860! It still flourishes today with the restaurant both inside and outside heaving. The osteria offers traditional dishes using the finest local produce with good service. The antipasti features classic dishes including mixed Tuscan meats and cheeses, burrata and boiled octopus. We had the homemade ravioli with yellow pumpkin and Garfagnana pecorino cheese fondue. This was some dish with the delicious creamy sauce and pumpkin flavour hitting those tastebuds (€12). The risotto with red chicory, montecarlo red wine and sausage also caught our eye (€12). The portion size was so generous and the red wine and sausage really complimented each other. Make Osteria Baralla a must visit on your list of restaurants in Lucca!

There are always so many restaurants to choose from and we picked this as we did our sightseeing based on the menu at the door and the outside seating. Returning for a meal later it was busy we had to sit inside which turned out just great. The restaurant has a lovely ambience was great. I had the beef stew...wonderful a taste sensation served with polenta and a basic salad and lightly toasted bread. My partner had papperdella pasta and fresh puccini mushrooms...again delicious. A simple starter of bread , olive oil and basalmic vinager. Really worth the money and would return again.
