So disappointed after a recommendation we booked this restaurant, and when we booked the owner gave us a friendly smile and a nod of acknowledgement… when we arrived for our booking that’s when it all went downhill… we made our order … but while waiting for our first course another table arrived about 20 minutes after making our order … then about twenty minutes later the second table were served their meals… we then asked where our order was abs was advised it was just coming. We then waited another thirty minutes and two plates came out. One of the orders was completely wrong and our first course hadn’t even been served … we were asked to confirm our main course choices but still no starter..we could not be bothered at this stage in advising them that we hadn’t received the starter.. regarding the main courses the food was not that good the tripe dish was bland and the stew was ok.. the roast potatoes and pepper side were good though.. after finishing our meal the plates were eventually taken away… we waited but nobody came with a dessert or aperitif menu.. after 30 minutes we just asked for the bill, which took another ten minutes and was incorrect, as they had charged us for the starter which we hadn’t received… when I advised that the bill was incorrect as we hadn’t received the starter the response was that they had been very busy on a Tuesday evening.. I then pointed out that the table next to us arrived 20 minutes after us and were served had had their meal and a reset before we had our main courses… the bill was corrected but no apology was made or even an offer of a complimentary aperitif… really disappointed and I know that the person who recommended the restaurant will be...

Read moreThere are many beautiful restaurants in Lucca but Osteria Baralla has been a favorite from my first trip to Lucca 5 years ago. The inside is beautifully decorated, but they also have very nice outdoor seating. If you want an authentic menu for the area, this is a good restaurant to experience.
Service is very prompt and the food is always good! Some of the staff speak English, and the menu is in English and Italian.
Usually when I go, I order the Testaroli con Pesto and Tiramisù for dessert. I've also had the Gnocchi Sorrentina and "Grigio da Toscana" (Pork Chop). I don't eat much meat so I tend to prefer the vegetarian options, but the pork was very good, and my parents would agree as we came back a second night just for that. The menu has a very good selection of authentic dishes from the area, and most of the menu is made in house! Pricing is reasonable for dinner considering the surroundings, but I can tell you every penny is worth the experience. They do charge a "coperto" which I believe is 2 euros, which they list as a table tax and bread charge.
Highly recommended! You won't be...
