WOW! What an absolutely amazing experience. This felt like finding a hole-in-the-wall place. I saw that Oltremare was written up in the Michelin Guide but had some polarizing Google reviews, but I can tell you without a doubt, this was one of the best restaurants I have ever been to.
We arrived for my partner’s birthday and were immediately greeted by the warm manager and staff. The views of the sunset over the Amalfi coast were unbelievable. We sat outside and it was a surreal view.
The service felt like a 3-star Michelin restaurant. The waiters were friendly and helpful while still maintaining an extremely high level of professionalism. We were given welcome glasses of sparkling wine which was a nice surprise.
My partner and I looked at each other in disbelief after our introductory bites. We were given sea bass, rabbit, scampi, foie gras, and more and it was all amazing. The bread service was impeccable and everything was warm and freshly baked. Our appetizers were amberjack and scampi with goat cheese and again, breathtaking. For our entrees, we got the chef’s choice (cod and fruit jams) and the seafood mortadella (a little small) and they were unreal.
The service continued to shine, whether it was our main server, Antonella, or the sommelier, everyone was extremely kind and helpful. We got a sorbet from the chef of lemon, almond, and orange which was, big surprise, delicious! For desserts, we had an apricot and vanilla dish that was fantastic and a tiramisu dish that was one of the best I ever had. Our dish came with a birthday candle surprise and an additional platter of chocolates and sweet treats.
Overall, this was a fantastic meal and the best I have had in my two weeks in Italy. We dined at Torre Normana the other night which was good, but absolutely nothing compared to Oltremare, in quality of ingredients, creativity, service, and views, and I hope more people find this place. This was truly a hidden gem and an incredible experience. It is easily on par if not better than many Michelin star restaurants I have been to. If you find yourself in Maiori or anywhere near it, I urge you to visit. Thank you for an...
Read moreSPEECHLESS. If you are anywhere on the Amalfi Coast, you must go here—-this place is on the Michelin guide for a reason. The food was absolutely beyond amazing but I also have to talk about the service. Dining here was truly an experience, so personable the entire time. When we arrived, the owner greeted us by name and led us to our table where the entire restaurant had gorgeous views of the sea. The owner was knowledgeable about every dish, as were all the waiters. Antonella was our waitress and she was so kind and knowledgeable, and made the experience so lovely. The sommelier (I didn’t catch his name) was also incredibly helpful and kind. The entire staff is the definition of high-class. For appetizers, we got the Scampi and Goat and the Amberjack. WOW. They were absolutely fantastic and the seafood was so fresh. I would order both again in a heartbeat—the scampi and goat especially was one of the best bites I have ever had. For mains, we got the seafood mortadella, which was phenomenal, and the chef’s dish which was a cod risotto with different jams. The chef’s dish was one of the best dishes I have ever had in my life, truly. For desserts, we got the “like a tiramisu” and the “apricot and vanilla”. Both were fantastic, but I loved the tiramisu especially. Overall, this was not only fantastic and affordable food, but also a true high-class dining experience from the staff to the gorgeous views of the sea. This is a MUST go-to spot and it will undoubtedly be given a Michelin Star soon. Thank you Oltremare for an amazing experience. This was the best meal I had in my 2 weeks in Italy, and one of the best in my life. I...
Read moreI went to Oltremare Maiori expecting a fine dining experience, but unfortunately, the service from the sommelier ruined it entirely. From the start, we made it clear that my wife has a dairy allergy, to which the sommelier responded with "of course." However, when our first dish arrived—cheese balls—he seemed to completely forget and then blamed us for not mentioning allergies when booking. We had literally just told him 5 minutes earlier!
The rest of the waitstaff—four other female waiters—were fantastic: knowledgeable, professional, and attentive. But for some reason, the sommelier decided to step in for wine service during one of the dishes. What followed was baffling: he addressed my female friend, turned his back to me while continuing the conversation, and served me from the left.
I understand mistakes happen, but in a Michelin-level restaurant, this is basic etiquette. You don’t serve from the left. Period. It felt incredibly disrespectful, and it’s hard to believe that someone in such a position would make these fundamental errors.
Ultimately, I ended up paying a Michelin-level bill for an experience that was nowhere near the quality I had expected. The entire evening was ruined because of this one person. Highly...
