Virtù Pizza & Cucina — Restaurant in Matera

The pizza is really good but their 'policy' of not permitting sharing of a pizza is nothing more than a way to scam people. Never have I heard of such a policy having eaten in many pizza ristorantes in Italy. They don't have house with by the liter? Also a scam. Don't spend your money here - they are scammers. After the owner's response, which basically illustrates a negative attitude: you cannot sue someone for expressing their opinion, which is what every review is. In a town, a region, a country, where one can get excellent wine for €4/bottle and where virtually every other restaurant offers local wine by the liter, not doing so is a money grab from tourists. Bar or restaurant, it remains the case that not permitting patrons to split a pizza and telling them to leave if they don't like it is also a cash grab - you would really prefer to lose a customer completely and make no money than some? Finally nothing I said was untrue - you agreed you don't sell wine by the liter or split a pizza. The conclusion I draw from that is one don't like. We arrived within open hours. The waiter refused to serve as its “too late”. Then our child needed toilet urgently- they told us “toilet is only for customers”!! If you want your mood ruined just go there [Update] So I explain in detail, we took a long journey to reach this restaurant from Bari, as we wanted to have a good meal and after countless of stairs arrived at 14:55 and wanted to take a table (google shows 15:30 as closing time). There were customers still seated and eating. I asked the waiter for a table for 3 and he checked his watch and told us “too late”. So even if I wanted to I could be welcomed as a customer to this establishment.. Then my child urgently wanted to go to the toilet and I asked if we can use the toilet. The waiter said “only for customers” and told us to go to public toilet… Now with the reply from the restaurant below they are showing I’m not telling the truth. Even if the food might be good from the reviews what is the point to go to a restaurant they treat you bad… What a pity. There are many other restaurants with good food and service, so I recommend going...

Absolutely the best experience. Really one of the best pizzas we have ever tried- and we have tried mani in all the different cities of Italy and the world! We went to Bari’s famous St Michelle pizza place a day before, and it’s it is not comparable to Virtu. Pizza was perfect size, flavorful and the crust was just made in heathen!

Please go there and take every suggestion from the server NICOLA. The dried papers- local dish, I will miss it back in US. And for the desert- make sure to try the basil ice cream. So light, flavorful and now is my most favorite ice cream in Italy. Absolutely fantastic experience- the place itself looks so authentic and beautiful. No words! Just please be sure to BRING CASH FOR THE TIP, as they do not accept credit card tip. Also, please try the local beer- it is absolutely amazing.
