one star for the excellent location and outstanding interior looking. one star for the great hot bread.

We stayed in Matera for 4 days. Everyday we eat at restaurants. We have tried 8 different restaurants in Matera. This one’s service was one of the worst. And food was the most mediocre for its price. The ambiance was the most arrogant. We can’t understand where it come from their deep self-believing. They think they stand in the better dining position of Matera, so they do whatever they want.

With all due respect to the other travelers who gave him full marks for his food and service, I can't understand it. I will admit that the guest at the next table who had reservation, probably a familiar customer and appeared to be able to pay a hefty tip did receive special treatment from the customer service manager. The manager gave him serious recommendations for wine and dishes. We, on the other hand, were treated very condescendingly as we had no reservation and were just travelers who arrived in a hurry on the night of our arrival by seeing high Google reviews.

After we were seated, we saw many other empty seats and asked if we could change tables. The answer we got was short but literally in Italian “Impossibile”. I mean, you could at least say, it’s booked. Or I’m sorry u can’t change. But rudely “ Impossibile”. At the beginning I thought it may due to his English skill is not good enough to express properly, but the waiter speaks perfectly good English.

After ordering the dishes, when we ordered the wine, we initially asked for two glasses of red wine. But when we thought that one of the main dishes was fish, we called the manager who was preparing to leave and wanted to change it to white. He just said yes with an impatient look on his face. I can't imagine that in such a fine restaurant, the manager resides without the ability to make the most basic judgment for the customer's wine selection. Later I found out that it was not inability but pure unwillingness. As mentioned above, the sophisticated acquaintance at the next table was given a full set of wine recommendations.

the food really wasn't that good. One cannot rule out the fact that one's taste buds lose some of their basic judgments in a pretty setting for reasons of the heart. We ordered a fish noodle. Very greasy. The kind of greasy that you will faint after eating because of high cholesterol. The other main course was lamb chops. A chef can not handle the basic operation of the heavy smell of lamb, is undoubtedly a...

Baccanti, a hidden gem nestled in the ancient city of Matera, Italy, is a dining experience that goes beyond exceptional. The picturesque location, the extraordinary ambiance, and the transcendent cuisine, all combine to create an unforgettable experience that resonates with the rich history of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Set in a spectacular subterranean cave, Baccanti effortlessly merges the timeless charm of the ancient past with contemporary elegance. The stone terrace, with its enchanting view of Matera's unique cityscape, provides an equally mesmerizing outdoor dining experience. Each setting is an unforgettable experience, steeped in the warm hospitality characteristic of southern Italy.

However, it is Baccanti's menu that truly elevates this experience from outstanding to extraordinary. Specializing in high-end Italian pasta, meat, and seafood dishes, each plate is a masterful expression of authentic Italian cuisine. The quality of the ingredients shines through in each dish, from the al dente perfection of their handmade pasta to the succulent freshness of the locally sourced seafood.

A standout dish is the homemade pasta, which is lovingly prepared and presented with an eye for detail that is the hallmark of true Italian cuisine. Paired with a decadent sauce and perfectly seasoned seafood, it is a dining experience that can only be described as heavenly.

Baccanti’s team, from the attentive wait staff to the expert chefs, ensures that every aspect of your dining experience is handled with care and finesse. Their attentive service ensures a seamless dining experience, where every need is anticipated and catered to with a warm, Italian charm.

A visit to Baccanti is more than just a meal; it is a culinary journey that you'll find yourself wanting to embark on time and time again. For those who appreciate the fine art of dining and the romantic allure of Matera, Baccanti is a must-visit destination. It's not just a five-star restaurant, but a place where memories are made and savored, much like their...

We booked this restaurant many months in advance, looking forward to a special evening with our family of six. Upon arrival, we were shown to the very first table directly behind the entrance door, with constant people coming and going. Naturally, we politely asked if another table might be possible. The immediate answer was a flat “no.”

When we calmly pointed out that perhaps a table in the other area could be arranged for six, the waiter responded with arrogance, repeating “Where, where? Show me, show me?” in an unprofessional and dismissive tone. This attitude was deeply disappointing.

After discussing among ourselves, we decided to leave. We had come to enjoy a nice evening and were ready to spend significantly, but we refused to accept such treatment. Strangely, at the very moment we stood up to leave, suddenly another table “miraculously” became available. If it was possible then, why not when we first asked politely?

This experience left us feeling disrespected and unwelcome. Hospitality should begin with attitude and respect, not arrogance and games.

We cannot review the food but the service is not worth more than one star. Which is the...

Best restaurant so far on my trip around Puglia. The presentation is off the charts, and the flavours are well balanced, unique and so well done. The portions are reasonable so even though I couldn't eat every bite, two people would have a perfect amount. Started with a parmigiana flan, a cheesy creamy creation that was out of this world! Moved on to try two types of pasta, both of which were amazing, followed by the most tender veal cheek I've ever had, I didn't even need a knife. Lastly a dessert recommended by the server, a dessert version of focaccia, olive oil and salt, but as an ice cream, cake crumbs and an olive oil icing. It was such an experience, and for a reasonable price. Highly recommend this place!
