Matera, early afternoon. Within an hour, the sky darkened, and a biblical downpour began. Torrents of water flowed down all the pedestrian paths, cascading into the river gorge. We sought shelter inside a restaurant where one lady was drinking a Campari spritz and another a cappuccino. A pair of tourists asked for a taxi service number, and I approached a male employee with glasses. As the entrance sign read "food & drinks," I ordered two coffees, but he rudely told me that we couldn't have a drink there unless we were seated at a table (?!), adding, "and we're closing now anyway." At that moment, I thought I had never experienced such rudeness in bar or restaurant. But I was terribly mistaken, as the climax came with a sentence that, on an innocuous example, explained all the horrors that one human can inflict on .... As we stood by the bar for another minute deciding what to do next, the same "gentleman" said: "Sorry, we need the space!" Wow.... I was speechless.... With such ease, and even a hint of disdain, he threw us out into the downpour, even though it did not bring him any financial loss at that moment. We left with a painful feeling that resembling a human does not mean being one. This is not a food review; it is a review of dignity and humanity because when we are miserable and in need, we cannot (and do not have the strength to) defend ourselves. Believe me, Matera is full of beautiful moments for enjoying food and drink. We simply need more good people. The sentence "Sorry, we need the space," when there's an apocalypse outside, will long haunt me. It will remind me to be a better person at...

I recently had an absolutely horrendous experience at Dulcis in Fundo. Let me tell you, the staff's rudeness and lack of empathy were beyond belief. It was pouring rain outside, and my girlfriend and I were desperately seeking shelter from the downpour.

However, as we approached the entrance, the waiter looked us up and down with such disdain, as if we were unwelcome guests. We politely explained that we were seeking refuge from the rain and that we would gladly purchase a drink if that was a requirement. But instead of showing an ounce of compassion, they simply shrugged us off, telling us we couldn't come in.

It was utterly appalling to witness such callous behavior. We were standing there, soaked to the bone, with nowhere else to go, and they couldn't even spare a moment to think about our comfort or well-being. The fact that they prioritized their ridiculous entrance policy over the basic decency of allowing people to escape a torrential rainstorm speaks volumes about their lack of customer service.

I can assure you that my girlfriend and I will never set foot in that establishment again, and I implore anyone reading this to avoid it like the plague. Such blatant disregard for customers is simply unacceptable. I understand establishments have rules, but this level of inhumanity is beyond comprehension. There are plenty of other places that value their customers and treat them with respect, so do yourself a favor and steer clear of this nightmare of a...

As an Australian, I am writing this review to other people who speak English to not go to this venue. I have travelled all around the world and never had such an awful experience. We were with a group of friends (all natives of Matera, except me) and the music was blaring like we were at a night club. I requested the music to be turned down and the bartender gave me an awful look, muttered under her voice and turned it down one notch. We then asked another waiter to turn it down which eventually led the manager to have a word with the bartender as she then preceded to turn it off. They then argued amongst each other in front of their guests, again, unprofessional. Obviously there must be much deeper issues at the business. When her managers left she then turned it right back up. They also failed to bring out the Taralli and olives that we ordered. To top it off the two waiters started kissing behind the bar while the music was blaring, super unprofessional. As I write this it almost seems hard to believe. The most unprofessional, disrespectful and awful experience which left everyone in the group quite unhappy. I plead to anyone reading this, just keeping walking, there are some fantastic venues in Matera, this one is not one of them. I went through and read the other reviews, seems like rude staff has been an ongoing problem. Save yourself from a terrible night and walk a bit further...

The last time I came to this establishment, it was in a very lovely location with exquisite baroque decor. They have since moved. While the view of the gorge in their new location is lovely, it’s not was I was expecting to see. The most disappointing part of this recent visit was their aperitivo! It used to be a destination spot, not to miss. I’ll include a photo of what they used to provide - olives, nuts and taralli and they view with the curtain. Now, they charge more for the drinks and all you get is taralli. The service is slow and the waiter didn’t understand any English. Not good for a tourist destination. This establishment is a shell of its former self. I would not recommend to come here but rather search out a place that values its customers experience (and value for money)!more.

Great place, well located with a breathtaking view, friendly service from the waitresses. The dishes are delicious and generous. The pasta San Giovanni was delicious, also the beef fillet with almond sauce and bruschetta, cocktails amazing, much better than other places in town.
