Le Bubbole — Restaurant in Matera

We had a fantastic meal here and would recommend. €130 for x2 people. x2 starters, x2 mains, x1 dessert and x1 mid-range bottle of wine.

Get the Black pork ravioli. Possibly the best pasta to ever pass my fair lips.

The pork belly main was a fatty delight with sweet but subtle cranberry and apple sauces. My partner enjoyed her lamb, which is much heralded by fellow journeymen and women, but between you and me, I think I ordered better.

The additional solo squished new potato was perhaps (dare I say it) the star of the show. Perfectly seasoned and fluffy. Like a well-travelled cloud. The small quantity required slow, mindful chewing. In my dreams there was a whole plate of them.

Also, all the staff looked Hollywood chic in their smart, double breast suit jackets.

The service, location and ambiance of the restaurant was perfect. The food was presented beautifully however the tastes did not always match up and portions left you feeling unsatisfied. The second course which cost 30 euros was tiny and definitely not worth it, price and taste wise. There was a coldness to all the dishes, they lacked “heart”. During the dinner all the products seemed really fresh and top quality, however me and my partner had a big stomachache until the next morning after the dinner. Unfortunately I’m sure that in Matera one can find a cheaper alternative filled with deliciousness and great food. The humility and surprise factor of this A+ dining experience is that none of our research into restaurants in Matera pulled up this place and we were lucky enough to stumble upon it one rainy night and proceeded to enjoy one of the top 5 meals of my adult life. I will say that, while the interior is gorgeous, the atmosphere wasn't too memorable, but that maybe it's better on nights when it's not just me, my girlfriend, and literally just one other couple. But you're here for the food, and it screams of confidence and daring in the kitchen, and the results are delectable, probably the best bread and amouse bouche of our entire 3 week trip.
