Il tanamana — Restaurant in Menaggio

A mixed bag – nice spot, great owner, but watch out at night.

Il Tanamana is in a great location right by the ferry port in Menaggio, and at first glance, it really does seem like the perfect spot to unwind. The drinks were strong (maybe too strong 😂), the vibe during the day was relaxed, and the owner was genuinely lovely — warm, welcoming, and even stepped in to kick out a drunk local who started harassing me. Massive respect for that.

Unfortunately, the problems started when the sun went down. On two separate nights, I had issues with different locals — both clearly intoxicated and both aggressive. One guy was giving me grief unprovoked, and the next night I was being called slurs in Italian and getting flipped off by a stranger… on my 10-year anniversary with my partner, no less. Really classy stuff. Honestly, he was lucky I chose not to react.

To be clear: this isn’t the bar’s fault. The owner handled things as best he could. But tourists should be aware — after dark, some of the local drinkers in this area seem to have a real issue with outsiders. It’s disappointing, especially in such a beautiful town.

Prices were on the higher side, but so is everything in Menaggio — it’s a tourist hotspot, so that’s expected. Just know what you’re getting into if you stop by in the evening: decent drinks, good staff… but sadly, a risk of...

Qualcuno forse storcerà il naso alle mie 5 stelle. Voglio spiegare il perché. Innanzitutto ammetto che ci sono locali piu eleganti a Menaggio, locali con un menu piu elaborato, con una clientela piu esclusiva. E' chiaro che se Il Tana viene comparato con altri locali della zona piu blasonati, il voto dovrebbe essere molto piu basso. Il punto però è cosa vado a giudicare. DISPONIBILITA': Avendo passato una mattinata nell'ospedale di zona io e mia moglie volevamo pranzare prima di rientrare a Como. La maggioranza dei locali erano chiusi. Il Tana era aperto. POSIZIONE: Davanti al molo, luogo facilissimo da trovare. LOCALE: Certo, non elegantissimo ma molto alla mano con un tocco di locanda retrò che a me piace. Da l'idea di essere in una osteria di qualche anno fa dove ci si trova bene e non ci si sente fuori luogo. CLIENTELA: Molto variegata, ho apprezzato molto trovare diversi lavoratori della zona pranzare nel locale. Questo è qualcosa di personale ma, per me, è sinonimo di buona cucina. L'atmosfera era molto famigliare e ci sentiva a proprio agio. MENU: Abbiamo preso il menu del giorno. La scelta era tra due primi e tre secondi. Abbiamo preso una pasta con broccoli e salsiccia. La pasta era cucinata molto bene, ottima la salsiccia e abbondante e broccoli freschi con dei bei pezzi. Questo è un punto a favore in quanto, molto spesso, i menu di lavoro non hanno praticamente nulla di ingredienti guarnizione. Il secondo piatto era molto buono. Ho preso un pollo al vino bianco con insalata. Il pollo è arrivato poco cotto. La cameriera lo ha cambiato scusandosi molto. Il piatto è stato cambiato in toto e non ricotto come purtroppo molti fanno quando si parla di menu di lavoro. L'alto numero di clienti garantisce una certa qualità nel prodotto. PREZZO: 11euro a testa per un primo, secondo, vino e caffè. Mi sembra ottimo. La qualità era buona per il prezzo pagato. PERSONALE: Gentile, alla mano, simpatico ed intelligente. Lavora veloce ma senza darti l'idea che devi schiodare appena finisci. CONCLUSIONE: Sono arrivato velocemente al locale, ho mangiato bene e a sazietà, il personale gentile e pagato poco. Per me è da 5 stelle. Certo che se devo comparare Il Tana con un ristorante stellato...però mi sembra incorretto. Se cerchi un locale alla mano dove mangiare discretamente con poco, Il Tana è una scelta ottima. Se invece vuoi spendere almeno 50 euro a testa puoi andare in altri Ristoranti della zona... sempre che...

Some friends and I wanted to have one last dinner before leaving Italy but every restaurant had closed the kitchen by 22:00. We came here as a last resort and without any hope of finding somewhere to eat a good pizza.

However, we were pleasantly surprised. There was only one staff member, but the service was excellent. Fresh and high quality food. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who's willing to taste a great pizza while listening to the relaxing sound...
