Caffè Centrale — Restaurant in Menaggio

Lovely location and view draws you in, however, this turns out to be the ONLY good thing! Asked where to sit outside , server annoyed. Asked about wine by the glass selection, server annoyed. Pretty sure this guy does not like Americans. Ordered caprese salad and two carbonara dinners. Caprese was delicious but we watched others around us have several courses and leave while we waited and waited for our dinner. Had to ask another server to check for us. Two carbonara dinners eventually arrived - each with a different sauce? One creamy, lacking cheese and another with cheese and some flavor. Tiny bit of guanciale in each. Really have never had a bad carbonara in Italy. Didn’t think it was possible- lesson learned! This place does not like foreigners- particularly Americans. Steer clear or have drinks only - many delicious places nearby without the view but also welcoming...

The good The location and views are top notch 12/10, the pasta with prosciutto was delicious and would highly recommend.

The bad The waitress we had ruined our experience. Inattentive and rude, took 15 minutes to get her attention to order because she was too busy being inattentive. Ordered the Tirimisu at the end but she never brought it, at all. The caprese salad had no basil, no olive oil, no table side bread, no table side olive oil, just tiny mozzarella and a tomatoe. Left a lot to be desired.

Overall please come for the view, pasta, and god save you if you have her serving you

Haven’t stayed at the hotel so...

So we travelled just a week before the actual season begins so this was the only open option available around Menaggio when we were super hungry and we didn’t even check the ratings and guess what, pleasantly surprised. The pastas are decently priced and the view is gorgeous! The service was fairly okay and nothing to complain about. The toilet is a disaster but apart from that can’t think of a bad thing to say. It was full whenever we passed by it explains it cus there weren’t many options around & the view of the lake from here is stunning. We visited twice and I only went through the reviews after that and was shocked that it had poor reviews citing horrid food and bad service. Probably got lucky and had a good...
