Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant. The atmosphere is nice, but the service and clientele themselves ruined the experience. We had to wait to get a table, which is fine by itself - but as we did so, we overheard a woman from a bachelorette party talking to one of the servers, saying "you're not going to give tables to these people?" in a very judgemental fashion. The server reassured her that they had saved tables for the party.
When we were seated about 20 minutes after we started waiting, the server rushed us to get our food. As we don't speak Italian, we had questions about the menu (my wife is vegetarian), and were meet with an aggressive answer.
The food itself was good. I wouldn't call it outstanding, but we enjoyed the meal. Unfortunately, we both found hair in our pasta dishes, which added onto an already sour experience.
And the cherry on the cake was the couple at the table next to us, who shot nasty looks at us the entire time we ate. We've been a little congested from travel, so whenever we had to sneeze or blow our nose, we felt a death glare from the right.
Overall, not an experience I would recommend. Maybe it's my fault for not researching the place better and the expectations of it's clientele, but every other restaurant we've been to in Italy so far has had much...
Read moreTourist trap! Prices are clearly inflated for tourists. The staff is rude, arrogant, and not helpful at all.
When we visited we ordered a pinsa and a carbonara pasta. While waiting, we witnessed one of the waiters drop a pinsa on the floor, spilling some of it onto other customers. Shockingly, no one apologized, not to the affected customers, nor to us when we offered to help clean up. They just carried on as if nothing had happened.
Later, when our own pinsa arrived, we started eating—but soon realized there was a large amount of hair underneath it (not just a few strands, but a clump of hair between the dough and the wooden board). We immediately reported it to the waiter, and he quickly took it away before we could take a photo. That reaction, along with the timing, made it painfully obvious: they had reused the dough from the pinsa that had fallen on the floor, simply adding new toppings and serving it to us.
When we asked for an explanation, no one took responsibility. They just said they didn’t know what had happened, that the person who prepared it had already left.
Oh, and of course, they charged us €5 for cover. Incredible — paying to eat hair from the floor.
Absolutely unacceptable. My strongest advice: DO NOT GO to this...
Read moreAfter a week in Menaggio and trying as many places for food and drink, I can honestly say this is the best place for food and drink. (If it is wine only that you are after, try Enoteca Re Di Quadri)
They only have a couple of reds and whites by the glass but the advice from Micheal was excellent. And if you go for a bottle and don't like it, not a problem, you can try another. They are not precious about opening a bottle like some places can be.
The food was absolutely superb; probably the most authentic food we have had this week and the service was second to none. We had the steak and trout tarter to start and the risotto and pizzoccheri della valtellina for main. Both of which were superb and we're considering going back to try more of the menu if we have time.
We went for dinner at a relatively early 6pm and are glad be did: by 6:30 there was already a queue. But you are not rushed to finish and move on.
I really cannot recommend this place
enough. Micheal was incredibly knowledgeable about wine and food and Georgia behind the bar allowed us to enjoy a cheeky vermouth before we left.
After about 15 meals in Menaggio, this place is our...
