BeiYuan Hotpot Maciachini 北园火锅 — Restaurant in Milan

I think this is as good as hotpot outside of China gets. Clean, high quality ingredients, efficient but personable service, great soup base, and excellent side dishes.

The self service seasoning table was organized, full of options, and clean. It’s very easy to have a messy station because people accidentally spill things all the time but there was clearly a lot of attention put into maintaining the station.

The soup base was aromatic, but I would say the chicken and fish maw base was a little heavy on the MSG. The soup by itself is tasty before the pot starts boiling but I wouldn’t drink too much, because the depth of flavor do not seem developed overtime through a slow cooking process but the addition of flavor additives. Maybe I’m weak but the spicy was also wayyy too spicy for me to the point that I can’t taste other flavors. The spices in the spicy pot also started getting bitter towards the end.

The food items were fresh and well-crafted. The crispy pork (小酥肉) is really good and very obviously freshly fried. The mango shaved ice was such a surprisingly good end to the experience.

Everything is kind of self-service (you order with a QR code) but small details speak good customer care, like the apron/bib provided, and the great availability of utensils and napkins. The chairs are super uncomfortable though, that’s definitely my only...

We arrived at our apartment at 2:20pm. The kind lady from the restaurant invited us into the restaurant even though the restaurant closed at 2:30pm. This girl took the initiative to come out of the restaurant to advise us is ok to dine in till 3:30. It was very kind of her. Food is excellent and fresh. The broth was so so delicious. To truly enjoy a meal while traveling , the food itself and the service are equally important , for my experience with Beiyuan has been really great in both ways. The soup base is exceptional and ingredients super fresh ! Comfortable seats and clean bathrooms . The managing team of speak fluent English , Italian and Chinese and they have the warmest smile whenever you need them .
