Maybe I had a "one-off" experience based on all the positive reviews, but aside from the somewhat friendly service - everything was a disaster.
I'll begin with the wine. I had tried two of their recommended red wines, and they were both very grainy and had a terrible bitter after-taste. I made the mistake of saying yes to one of them, so I'll take the hit for that one. I wouldn't be surprised if it was stored next to a hot furnace.
Next up: The food. Because the dinner menu was mainly non-traditional Italian cooking, I decided to go safe and order a single serving of the chef's most recommended appetizer. That dish was the meatballs. It was a disgrace to Italy as a country. It was not fresh and was nothing short of repulsive. I had then tried resorting to the bread and olive oil to help fill to hunger I had from walking around the entire day, but the bread must have been a couple or more days old as it was hard and not fresh.
I ended up going elsewhere to eat because I was left so hungry.
Such a let down. I guess it is difficult to judge a restaurant by its reviews; or maybe I just had an unlucky experience. Whichever the case, I will never be back.
I ended up paying 15.5 euro for nothing but old inedible food and non-drinkable...
Read moreI think this is a lovely place but I’m afraid the food overall was underseasoned :( I must give props though because the dishes LOOK amazing! And the service was great, helpful and quick :).
The carbonara I thought was not creamy at all, and had no taste of the pecorino or egg, definitely needed more salt. I know Milano is not the region for carbonara but yeah I was a bit disappointed :(
My brother got the Pappardelle All’antica and it was okay but also, looked better than it tasted. Wish it had more tomato flavour or creamier consistency. Anything to make it more interesting…
My dad’s Peposo Alla Fornica was better, it was tender, a traditional hearty stew, and my family were inspired to cook it at home! :)
Lastly, the Straccetti di Manzo Chiantigiani was alright but a little dry...
Read moreEvery month when we are in Milan, this is our local restaurant. The service and the food is flawless. If I had the choice I would eat here everyday! Lunch times, during the week, there is a pre-set menu which differs nearly on a daily basis and it costs only €12. Amazingly delicious. The rest of the time it is a la carte, and I nearly always order the same items off the menu; I start with the Cacio e Pepe pasta (cooked and flavoured to perfection), then the Tagliata Steak, served with rocket and Parmesan and then finish off with an apricot tart. I wash all this down with one of their house red wines which they blend themselves (so delicious). This is an amazing restaurant. So glad that we discovered it and we shall continue to visit it for many...
