A truly excellent dinner out. We specifically made reservations here due to hearing that they had the best Risotto Milanese con Ossobuca. Getting reservations was a small challenge, but it was well worth it. Being our last big meal in Italy before we left, we wanted to make it a good one.

We when we arrived the simple nature of the place greets you with the warmth of a home. We were promptly seated in a smaller dining room just beyond the front room containing the bar and what seemed like a main dining room. The five tables in the area gave enough background chatter that our conversation was our own.

Our waiter was superb. Josh was absolutely on it all night, meticulously taking care of us, explaining the menu and keeping the table spotless the entire evening. We were never want for anything and he seemed to arrive just when we needed him. His wine recommendations to start the meal were excellent.

We started with polpette made from veal, breaded and fried to a perfect crispness accompanied with a puttanesca. Accompanying that, we enjoyed a small plate of prosciutto, salume, and capicola.

I had the Risotto Milanese as a primo with the braised beef as my secondo. My wife had the Roasted capon which was stuffed with plum, apple, greens, and chicken liver. Our friends had the capon and Risotto Milanese con Ossobuca.

To finish the meal, Josh suggested a pistaccio and peperoncini gelato. Skeptical, I ordered one and asked for four small spoons. Wow, what a great, and unique, flavor combination. The serving that we ordered did not last long.

A great meal finished off with a caffe and a local amaro put us in the right gastronomic spot for a nice walk back to our apartment.

Josh made the meal an awesome experience, and it would have only been a great meal without him. If you are in the area, make reservations, enjoy some of the best Osteria food in the area, and request his services...

We enjoyed a delicious meal and received exceptional service from the ever attentive Joshua. We arrived slightly before our reservation at 7:30pm and they were kind to seat us early. We were the first patrons in the restaurant…but not for long. The restaurant was completely full within 30 minutes of our arrival. There is a 2-hour maximum stay limit. In other words, Osteria Treno is very popular so I highly recommend making reservations!

Our waiter, Joshua, was very personable and helpful in making dining recommendations. As I said, the restaurant was fully booked but Joshua and the entire wait staff did an excellent job in attending to all guests, and delivering food quickly or more slowly, depending on preference.

My husband and I started with the coponata with bread, just like my nana use to make. Coponata was new for my husband and he loved it! We then tried the fried meatballs. I’ve never had this type of meatball and I loved the texture of the soft meat center and crispy outer “shell.”

By this time I was getting full so just ordered a charcuterie platter. The salamis and cheese were delicious but I ended up taking half home. My husband ordered the very popular osso bucco with saffron risotto. It was a huge portion and delicious. The rice was perfectly cooked and so creamy. The meat was fork tender.

Although stuffed, we had to try the interesting flavored gelato - pistachio and pepper. It was a great pistachio taste up front with a warm throat sensation when swallowed. Not at all spicy and an interesting, creative surprise.

My only wish is that I could have eaten more and tried more dishes. Since we could not finish half of our main dishes, Joshua was kind to carefully wrap our leftovers. We enjoyed them for breakfast...

This restaurant was featured in Stanley Tucci's Searching for Italy series and I just had to try it for myself. From the moment my family and I stepped foot inside, we were captivated by the warm ambiance and the impeccable service.

Our party of 3 were served by Josh and he had great attention to detail. Throughout the evening, Josh guided us effortlessly by suggesting wine pairings that elevated the flavors and small plates that goes well with our main dishes. The attentive service and Josh's knowledge enhanced the overall dining experience, leaving a lasting impression.

For starters, we had the beef Milanese meatballs, Milanese Mix, and Slow Food Protection Mix. The cold cits of the slow food mix were amazing and melts in the mouth with every blossful bite. The Milanese mix had impeccable balance of creaminess and subtle yet distinct flavors that left us craving for more.

Moving on to the main course, I was presented with a tender and succulent veal steak, which is a signature dish of the region. The veal shank, bathed in a flavorful white wine-based sauce was an absolute delight. The meat fell effortlessly off the bone, and each mouthful was a symphony of robust flavors that showcased the skill and expertise of the chef. My sister had the taglatielle Bergamot sheep ragu which had fresh pasta and flavorful meat whereas my mother had the baccala dish that was equally delish.

We would have wanted to stay longer for dessert but we had to finish the night early to catch a show.

Make sure you have a booking as this place is booked out often. I was greeted promptly and shown to my table. This osteria has beautifully set tables with crisp tablecloths and nice glass ware. The menu had lots of good choices but I felt I had to take the popular one of risotto with marrow bone. I asked the waiter for a wine match and he recommended a nobilo which I have to say matched perfectly. The risotto was good but the marrow was a bit dry. Obviously the marrow isn’t cooked to order and mine had dried out with reheating. I asked when the marrow was cooked and they said in the afternoon but that the smaller pieces may dry out. My final comment was that the place was fairly quiet. I think some background music might have been nice.
