On July 16, I went to the work food atipical restaurant for dinner with my wife. The restaurant came highly recommended. At arrival I asked for a table with some privacy, but the request was unfulfilled. Afterwords, as we sat, I requested a bottle of champagne, to which the waitress promptly responded that they don’t have any champagne but that instead she could offer us some sparkling wine. As the menu was limited, but the restaurant is in a location known for their seafood, I asked if they had any lobster. The waitress informed us everything available on the menu was what we could choose from. We proceeded ordering some seafood pasta with bottarga and a sea bass fillet each, with some roasted vegetables on the side. We asked for coffee and the check and at that time the chef approached our table, asking for feedback on the dinner. I shared my thoughts on the limited and basic menu for such a famous restaurant and that we were unable to order any champagne. At that point he pointed out that champagne is sold at their restaurant and the waitress insisted we never made such request. I am generally loud and when I started arguing for being called a liar apparently I offended the chef. Who proceeded to scald me, saying to lower my voice in his “house” and that he will be reviewing audio and video that he promptly records every night. As part of the conversations he recorded are private and very confidential in my case, I reprehend him that he is in violation of privacy and that I could go to the authorities if he insisted on wanting to check recording against my word. Our experience at Atypical was nothing short of unique! Every detail was refined and thoughtfully crafted, from the ambiance to the presentation of each dish. The prices absolutely reflect the high quality and attentive service we received – worth every cent.

We ordered the Carbonara pasta, Mugnoli pasta, Gnocchi with seafood, Tiramisu, Pasticciotto, a Gin Tonic, and a Margarita. Every single item was incredibly delicious and memorable. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the presentation was elegant.

The service was outstanding – the staff were kind, attentive, and genuinely caring. The restaurant was spotless and well-organized, adding to the overall pleasant atmosphere.

We were welcomed with an amuse-bouche, and at the end of our meal, we were treated to a complimentary digestif when paying the bill – a thoughtful and generous gesture.

The location is also fantastic – close to the seafront and tucked away in the charming, intimate streets of Monopoli. It’s the perfect spot for a romantic or special dinner.

To top it all off, the chef personally came to our table during the meal to ask if everything was to our satisfaction. He mentioned that the restaurant had opened just a month ago – and we can confidently say, Atypical is already a standout!

Dining at Atypical Monopoli was one of the absolute highlights of our trip to Puglia. This restaurant is a true hidden gem – effortlessly blending creativity, authenticity, and a warm, stylish atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home.

The menu is refreshingly original. Each dish is a modern twist on traditional Apulian cuisine, beautifully plated and bursting with flavor. You can tell that everything is prepared with care and high-quality, seasonal ingredients. We especially loved the [insert favorite dish here – the pasta carbonara, the seafood pasta and the steak, which was a standout both in taste and presentation.

The wine list is thoughtfully curated, with a strong focus on local producers – and the staff is more than happy to help you find the perfect pairing. Speaking of the staff: they were incredible. Warm, knowledgeable, and passionate about the food they serve. It felt less like dining at a restaurant and more like being a guest at someone’s (very chic) home.

The interior is modern yet inviting, with subtle nods to southern Italian design. Whether you’re sitting inside or at one of the cozy outdoor tables tucked into a quiet street, the ambiance is perfect for a relaxed yet special evening.
