Stopped by for lunch and it was so good I did something that I never do when visiting somewhere; revisit for dinner. It was busy but I opted to sit inside in order to enjoy the food once more. As I was dining by myself (solo traveller) I did not expect to be left sitting waiting to order food for an extended time. The table to my left came in after me but got served before me. Eventually I had to attract the attention of a waitress to ask for someone to place an order. No apologies from the man who decided to take the order. Solo travellers both male and female deserve respect similar to larger groups. We spend the same money with the added bonus of a quick table turnaround. I've been traveling around Puglia for the past week+ and this is the first and only negative experience I have had. Perhaps you should pay attention to all of your customers equally? In conclusion great food for lunch and @ dinner but nobody likes to be kept waiting after all I might have been a reviewer for Trip Advisor 😉. Final Results: Food A++; Service: D- (for dinner only). Whilst I would have normally lingered for dessert and coffee, I felt that I may have been left waiting till...
Read moreNot sure what to say. I was having a walk in the old town and decided to go for a quick early dinner at the Mikasa. Perfect location, nice tables, stylish setup. So I went for it. I ordered an Aperol Spritz to start and that was very nice and refreshing. I then ordered a tuna tartar. The dish was nicely presented, but it was extremely salty and not tasting very fresh. I thought... let me go ahead and have a fried fish dish (frittura mista). That was ok, but I cannot remember in my life having a bad fried fish dish. I then decided also to close the dinner with a tiramisù, and that unfortunately was really not good and tasting a bit off. So what to say... location very nice, staff very friendly, I also got a free limoncello at the end, but food... uhm... not too good unfortunately. But I have to admit that in these times with the COVID-19 around, I was really happy to see the staff at the Mikasa wearing masks and giving an overall feeling that this thing is not over and that extraordinary care has...
Read moreHard to choose a restaurant in Monopoli but I lucked in big time with this choice after a 15km cycle. Visited at the very end of August so tourist numbers were a little more manageable. Restaurant is in a beautiful setting. I asked the lovely server for her recommendations for a local Puglia dish - she immediately recommended the sea Bream fillet with dry tomato, crispy shrimp and zucchini (courgette) cream. It was outstanding: light but with perfect flavour and the crispiness of the shrimp offset by the subtle texture of the sea bream. I also had mixed grilled vegetables. The bread, made in Monopoli is mostly made with semolina flour and with their own olive oil it was outstanding. A large bottle of sparking water for €2 and some biodynamic local wine and this was a highlight of my Puglia trip to date. The restaurant is set a few metres away from the very busy port but is nestled into the old walls of the city and looks out onto the old port - a gorgeous setting. Hope you enjoy as...
