My husband and I had a fantastic Brunello tasting experience with Irald. We love Tuscan wine, especially Brunello, and wanted to ship home a case of something special at a price point of 50-60 euros a bottle. When we told Irald our goal, he set us up with an anonymous tasting of 8 different Brunellos so we could select one by taste alone. As we tasted, Irald would stop by to reveal tidbits of information like locations, vintage year, vineyard histories, etc. He created a fun game for us and by the end we learned which Brunello was our favorite (Castello di Tricerchi 2013). He stayed respectful of our price point. Irald's passion for wine was clear, and he made selecting a nice wine that we will enjoy on our anniversary ever year a wonderful memory. A Brunello tasting at la Fortezza is now a must-do for us whenever we make it back to Tuscany....

Quite possibly the best place we visited in Montalcino. Irald was such a great host. He made our experience incredibly memorable. A spider fell into my wine glass and we let him know. He brought the whole table a free round of wine to make up for the incident. He showed us a great time and recommended multiple wines for our day. He also gave us many recommendations for the Siena area for the days after. The wine was great and the castle was incredibly beautiful. I will always remember the views from the top of the castle. A fabulous enoteca wine tasting room with a great selection of regional wines. Surgio is wonderful and so passionate; a true delight to interact with. This isn't a place that is trying to scam tourists. Rather, it's a business that has love, appreciation, and pride of it's home.
