My second visit today to Osteria di Porta al Cassero has only reinforced what a true gem this restaurant is in the heart of Montalcino. Basic, healthy, Tuscan, glorious. Osteria di Porta Al Cassero is authentic as you can get. One would think a small restaurant next to the castle of the famous Tuscan hill town would be a tourist trap. However, our host at our hotel, Cristina, told us to go because she also makes the pasta for this place amongst others. She was so right, Osteria di Porta Al Cassero is amazing. We had chickpea soup that tasted like heaven. Fresh bread, handmade pasta with black truffle and some great Brunello to wash it down. It was filled with locals who were all festive and enjoying life. Ho cenato in questo ristorante un venerdì sera di marzo 2022, su consiglio del proprietario del B&B di Montalcino in cui alloggiavo. Il locale si trova proprio a pochissimi passi dalla Fortezza di Montalcino dove è presente anche un comodo parcheggio auto. Arredamento rustico, tipico della zona, atmosfera leggermente soffusa e personale gentile e disponibile. Ho prenotato un tavolo per le ore 19.30, in quanto nel paesino le cucine dei locali chiudono presto verso le 21/21.30, quindi volevo avere tutto il tempo di godermi la cena ed una buona bottiglia di vino in tutta tranquillità. Menù molto classico con pietanze tipiche del luogo ed alcuni piatti standard simbolo della cucina italiana; un pochino scarno forse, mi sarei aspettato almeno un paio di proposte in più sugli antipasti e sui secondi, però nel complesso si riusciva comunque a trovare una proposta per vari gusti; impiattamenti e cura del coperto in linea con i locali tipici di questo tipo. Qualità delle pietanze buona, cucina casereccia, condimenti saporiti, una bella esperienza sicuramente! Carta dei vini molto interessante, ci sono sia diverse proposte di vini al bicchiere (come giusto che sia a Montalcino) e poi ovviamente una lunga lista di proposte di vini tipici del luogo ed in generale vini rossi toscani di tutte le tipologie: io ho optato per un Brunello di Montalcino DOCG "Poggio alle Mura" 2015 della cantina Castello Banfi, davvero stupendo.
