Reasonably priced food and expensive drinks which were taken away while getting food from the buffet
We randomly passed by Centro bar in the heart of Montecatini Terme and saw an offer, which says aperitiv and snacks from the buffet (all you can eat) for 10€. That's certainly a good price for a downtown bar. The food, the drink and the ambiance were not bad (even though we only had plastic fork and knife). BUT: when we left our place to get some food from the buffet the waiter cleaned up our table (including our drinks, which where still half full). We complained and got the information, that we can order new drinks, which I didn't want, because my drink alone was at 7€. (Someone is malicious thinking that this act was systematic). I insisted to get drinks back, which are at least half filled up. After a few discussions we got drinks back, which looked like our old drinks. My girlfriends glas was dirty from outside, the straw of my drink was dirty from inside. Both drinks looked like someone already drunk from them. We weren't sure, that they brought out OUR old drinks and therefore didn't touch them. And also the Centro bar couldn't be 100% sure that they didn't brought us some random drinks. Fact is, that a bar, which makes a mistake like in our case cannot bring out old, dirty glass (that's last but not least unhygienic). We insisted again and talked to the chef waiter. He was talking a lot from the surveillance cameras all over the place and that never ever a waiter in his bar would bring out old glass. We are sure, that the bar tenders didn't make new drinks for us. I asked him how to solve the problem. His answer was: you have to pay the full amount. There was no intention to believe us, or to find a peaceful solution. That's also the reason for our rating. We are usually not the the kind of people who give detailed ratings like this one. But we do think, that people should know, this bar is treating their guests...
Read moreI dined at this restaurant two nights in a row. These were by far the best two meals that I had while in Italy. You can choose your lobster or whole fish from the display case. They debone your whole fish at the table. Every request to alter a dish or accomodation was fulfilled. One of my friends ordered the 800 gram tbone steak. It was presented on a sizzling platter. Another ordered their seafood linguine with lobster in a tomato sauce. He said it was the best pasta dish he ever had. I ordered the seafood platter in the picture. Seafood is almost always over cooked, especially calamari. All of the items were cooked perfectly so that they were done but not chewy. My second visit was with a group of 25. I approached the hostess at 7:30 pm during the dinner rush. The place was packed. I requested a reservation in 30 minutes for a party of 25. She gladly gave us the reservation and set up a table in the back room away from the crowds for us. We were all seated immediately. All 25 of the people said the food was amazing. I ordered the filet with peppercorn and walnut sauce. I could have cut the steak with a fork. The sauce was perfect, balanced and not overpowering. If you're in San Mangiano, or even passing by. I highly recommend. The restaurant also sits in the town square with outdoor seating and an attached desserterie owned by...
Read moreWe have been here several times. Our last visit was not great. I am not certain there were short staffed, but I am certain there was no one managing the outdoor area. It was a free for all of waitstaff trying to keep up. All of the table numbers seemed to be wrong, and we saw no less than six times, where they tried to deliver food, or beverages to the wrong table. Some tables received their drinks well after their meals arrived, some folks had to go and find cutlery for themselves. My husband's dinner arrived 10 minutes before my own. After we sat down, it took a good 20 minutes to get someone to take our order. We could sense the disarray, but had we been smart, we should have walked out without ordering. A simple meal (two entrée, one tonic, one glass of wine) took just under two hours, once we finally got our check, and went inside to pay. I am hoping this was a one off situation, you could absolutely see the wait staff struggling, and when we have been there in the past, the service and management was on the ball. Sad to see such a decline since we last visited at the...
