There are much better places to eat in Monterosso. This place is overpriced and the service was terrible :( Ordered the gnocchi with pesto and shrimp and it lacked flavor and texture. On top of that the employee/waitress was not very nice… pretty rude to us after getting our order wrong and charged us for an extra gnocchi dish (we only ordered one). She proceeded to say that she didn’t get our order wrong, that we didn’t listen, and told us to we would have to take the food home if we didn’t want to eat it there. After a while…she did eventually come back to check on us and then proceeded to make a scene after noticing we weren’t eating. She did offer not in a kind way to remove the extra plate of gnocchi charge, but tried to shame us and make us feel really bad about the situation and that we were wasting food. Very disappointed! We always try to be kind and respectful travelers, but this interaction was very disappointing. Also not there is a $3 seating charge per person, just a heads up as this seems common for this area. Haven’t been charged a cover charge in Italy so far except in Monterosso. Try another place in town instead if you want better service.
In response to the owners reply: We expected the $3 surcharge, just making people aware as we want to share an honest review Both my husband and I confirmed the order and we never heard the waitress say two orders of gnocchi. We ordered one caprese salad and one order of pesto gnocchi for our meal. We simply just wanted the bill fixed when the order was wrong. We only took the rest of the food home (though we didn’t want to) because we felt bad about the whole situation. To clarify, we still paid for our meal what we are supposed to owe. We appreciate you taking off the additional gnocchi order that was not supposed to be on our bill originally. Not charging for a dish doesn’t make for unhappy customers. There was not a lot of kindness felt. We have never been treated like that at a restaurant for our 35+ years. It was the public shaming by the waitress that was...
Read moreOur party was not sure about this restaurant as it had a few low scores mixed with high ones. Let me assure you this is a great restaurant for an evening out. The ambience, the wait staff, the owner, and above all the FOOD was supreme. We all ordered the main dishes of sea bass ravioli, shrimp pesto, seafood ink pasta, etc. All delicious, with hardly no wait time. They were full and busy, and yet were able to respond to our requests in a seamless way. The italian hamburger was one of the best we tried and out matched the ones i have had in the U.S. in terms of taste, quality of meat, and the way it was cooked. The Bufala pizza, flavorful, with crisp outer crust, and soft inner cooked to perfection, and the sauce tangy sweet, without having to add herbs to make up for a lack of taste. Dessert...the strawberry shortbread, sweet and tangy, with a nice crunch, the panacotta light, creamy, soft, with a contrasting medley of nuts balanced and refreshing, the parfait deep rich with flavor that traveled, the tiramisu one of the creamiest and rich without being over sweet, and having few surprises was one of the best in the region sampled. The help with the wine was friendly, professional, and warm. The wine was a region local white, crisp, refreshing, not too dry, perfect for seafood, and the dessert wine she recommended with biscotti was truly exceptional! The owner was there and professionally guiding the scene and flow of the restaurant. Our waitress was kind and responsive, and had a full allocation of tables. And on top of it all, we were honestly a friendly, boisterous but somewhat difficult table with many needs. They were all quite patient with us and added to the delight of our evening. Thank you Lapo, the departing lemon liquor was a fond salute to a...
Read moreWe had the most unfortunate experience at this place when we were waiting for our take-away pizzas. I was sitting out front eating gelato from up the street, waiting for our pizzas to be finished and when I asked nicely for a trash can, the bar tender pretended she didn't speak English, then called over a waiter who also pretended to not speak English, then they called over a manager who proceeded to shame me and tell me that I was in a restaurant and that if I wanted to throw my trash away I needed to go up the street. I told him we just bought food from them, and he shouted at me, waving his finger, saying, "Nice try. I know what our food looks like. " We were so shocked at how AWFUL the entire staff was. When we tried to get a refund for our pizzas they told us that they were already finished and then proceeded to tell us it was a misunderstanding and that they thought I was just a person off the street and they have to tell people "no" all day. Instead of apologizing, the manager just made a bunch of excuses while his waitress apologized for him. We take issue with a place who caters to tourists who seem to hate their job and hate dealing with tourists. Regardless of the "misunderstanding," it's not okay to treat people so disrespectfully. Sadly, the pizza was very good, which is why I gave it two stars instead of one, but I can not and will not recommend this place due to the staff...
