I don't have enough words to describe how much I enjoyed my visits here. I went on my second day in Napoli together with my partner and we had two pasta dishes : spaghetti frutti di mare and a local Napolitan pasta with caramelised onion and a bit of slow cooked meat. Sublime! We shared a trio of grilled veggies and some mushrooms, a half litre of local white wine, and two fantastic desserts: lemon cake and tiramisu. The food was top drawer and Anna, the waitress (I don't like to use the term - it feels more like she is hosting you in her own living room) and the chef were the types of people to bring a big smile to your face. Even if the service had been less wonderful than it was, the food speaks for itself.
We returned today for round two and had an equally fantastic meal. Pasta boscaiolo and rigatoni with ragu and crema di bufala. Sublime. Parmigiana the way it should be - melt in your mouth, flavourful, and comforting.
The mix of locals and tourists in the small and cozy space leads to a wonderful atmosphere. The food is unbelievable, and I've had far less delicious food for literally four or five times the price.
I've seen reviews about the neighbourhood being dodgy, but I did not feel that way at all. It feels like a neighbourhood that people genuinely live in, not a place for tourists. One must always be careful of their belongings around stations in big cities, but the reviews had me dreading the trip - it was not nearly as bad as people would have me believe.
Do yourself a favour and go pay Anna a visit. I am sad to be leaving Napoli tomorrow - it is a wonderful, vibrant city and when you go there with an open mind and heart, you will find that the people are generally very kind, welcoming and open. Anna and her Cantinetta embody for me everything I have come to love about this city in my short visit and I am sad to not be able to try Friday's menu, but I am already looking forward to our next meeting. You have to taste it to believe it.
Oh- don't turn down the offer of Limoncello or Meloncello. Both of them...
Read moreFirst of all, the first impression when passing by is that of a small mini market or something similar. Which makes this place a hidden gem. The first thing you notice is that wonder woman's smile greeting you at the entrance. She will most likely be the one to serve you and she is such a lovely lady, she is the refreshment that a person needs when visiting tourist places. Despite not being a professional restaurant her attention to details is far greater than that of the best restaurants, she is fast to notice and very fast to react, she sees something wrong and she doesn't hesitate at all to fix it fast. The food there is very good, it might not be the best food ever, depending on what exactly you like and what you order of course. But it is by no means bad, in fact even something you wouldn't particularly like. I had their dish of the day, which also included brocoli which I don't particularly enjoy unless it's boiled and seved with olive oil, salt and lemon, but with the "pasta" it's not bad at all. The house wine was spectacular very tasty and you could not taste any sulfates which was so nice for a change.
The homemade deserts are amazing, we had a cake with a lemony/mandarin taste to it and was amazing for ending the dinner.
The place itself has a very nice atmosphere reminding old times, it's also filled with history of the place.
So all in all we very much recommend this place and as always adjust your expectations on certain things because you can't expect everything from a small place, there are limitations as well. But the way this lady will make you feel at home will make your heart warm.
Very important note for those who read until the end. The price of wine is insanely low, so if you love you some good house wine, you should definitely come to this place and get blown away by the quality and price of this house wine. We were chocke and sorry that we didn't have more days to come back and enjoy the wine and...
Read moreYou wouldn’t think this small wine bar would serve actually very nice tasty cibi napolitani when you just look at this place from outside.
Pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was amazing. Prawns were fresh and crispy yet juicy. Of course we needed to try a street food of Napoli, it’s like a croquet with melting cheese inside. We walked from the train station and the street was not with many people, so I am not sure how the surrounding of this area usually is. But the place is so welcoming and I am so glad that we decided to wait for the table to be ready. The lady at the cashier is another reason to visit this place. We enjoyed a real hospitality of Napoli from her. It seemed many customers were locals, means the quality guaranteed. We finished the lunch with ice cold limoncello they offered to us. I’ll definitely recommend this place and I’d come back if I happened to be in...
