Gustus Napoli — Restaurant in Naples

Very disappointed. Wrong orders, long wait time, rude staff.

We (3 people) decided to have dinner here on our first day in Napoli. We didn't have a reservation so we waited for about 25mins to get seated and the whole time they told us that it's going to be "2 more minutes". We got seated together with 3 other people that we didn't know at a 6 top table (one 2 top put next to a 4 top).

We ordered our food: I ordered a Gustus burger, one of my friends ordered fries and some fried mozzarella (she's vegetarian) and the other friend ordered a vegghy panini (she's also a vegetarian). We waited 45 minutes to get some of our food (the fries and the fried mozzarella) and another 15 minutes more to get everything else.

When I got my burger it had grilled eggplant slices on it that were not meant to be there and that I did not ask for, but I just took them off and started eating my food. My friend that ordered the vegghy panini on the other hand had a bigger problem with her food: it had prosciutto on it. She talked to the server that brought someone else to 'solve' the problem and they tried to convince my friend that she got what she ordered and that the panini was supposed to have meat on it. She speaks italian, she checked the ingredients carefully before ordering. There was no way she got it wrong, so she asked to see the menu and then showed the staff that on the menu it doesn't say anything about meat and therefore it's not supposed to have any, to which they recognized their mistake but they said that the only thing they can do about it is send the order to the kitchen again but then we will have to wait another 45ish minutes to get her panini. She said that since they can't fix the problem quicker, they can just take the panini off of the bill because she didn't even touch it to which they replied that they'll fix the problem in 5 minutes. Sent the sandwich to the kitchen and after a few minutes they brought her the exact same sandwich without the prosciutto. They just took it off and brought it back. My friend ate it like that after saying that it still tastes like prosciutto...

After the other friend of mine paid, I wanted to go to the bathroom and they wanted to wait for me inside, sitting at the table (the other 3 people we were splitting the table with have already left by now). By the time I got out, they were not there anymore and there were other people sat there. I walked out, found them waiting there and they told me that they were told to leave. They said that they were waiting for me to come back and that we will leave in a few minutes. When the staff heard this they took the tables apart (my friends were still sitting there) and aggressively told them to leave, so they left.

Edit: I forgot to mention that when they were bussing the part of the table where the other 3 people sat, they changed 2 of the glasses (the people drank some juice or soda out of those) and for another one that SEEMED untouched, they just flipped it upside down (that's how they put the clean glasses on the clean table) and left it on the table as clean. I don't know if it was used for water or not, I didn't really pay attention, but they didn't bring a new, clean one.

I don’t know how to begin writing this review. I expected much more from this place given the rating on Google. We were lucky and waited only 5min to be seated. After that.. the great waiting began!!!! It took them quite some time to take our order, primo came 20min after order including basic stuff that don’t take so much time but let’s say it was ok. We ordered risotto and gnocchi as a secundo. After finishing primo we waited 45min to be served a dish that didn’t require even half the time! It was obvious the waitress forgot but they saw we were sitting and waiting. After some time I reminded them about our order and magic happened 15min later it came. However, no one apologised about making us wait so long. We thought that after waiting we would be served some great food but.. it turned out tasteless! The risotto you see on the picture was tried a few times and it was left that way - the worst risotto I have ever tried in my life happened to be in Italy!!!! It lacked any taste whatsoever, they totally forgot they have spices!? The rice was overcooked… it was a shame, to say the least. The gnocchi were better, but definitely nothing wow, just mediocre gnocchi. The staff didn’t even apologise. I am surprised this place has 4 stars! Staff and atmosphere weren’t great either. Only prices were okay but for this kind of tasteless food even those prices were expensive to be...

Food wasn't that great but not enough for one star. The rest of the experience is:

the owner became belligerent after we were asked why we didn't finish the food. Staff came to show us raw chicken to convince us we were wrong and the ingredients were fresh. Out of consideration of possible cultural differences we paid and left, taking our drinks with us to finish somewhere else.

The next day we were threatened to be shot and he tried to push open the door to our building after leaving two one star reviews. Seeing as he treated us to an extra experience, I'll take the effort to review that here as well. I'm curious if he will bless us with more. Or take a hard look at his behaviour and be more...
