Ristorante La Porta Accanto Napoli — Restaurant in Naples

There are a lot of places to eat well in Naples, but this restaurant is worth seeking out if you want to eat delicious food in a stylish, warm, modern setting at a modest price. We started with bruschetta to share between the two of us - simple but perfect, piled high with chopped tomatoes. I had pasta Genovese with octopus which was a special for the day. Nothing to do with pesto genovese, but a napolitan dish based on pasta with onions. The devil is in the details: the service, the presentation of the food, the pasta cooked to perfection, and perfectly moist. The flavours of the onion and the octopus. My partner had a simple spicy pasta with tomatoes and percorino, "turned in the frying pan" (saltato in padella) Again it's the quality of the ingredients and the cooking to perfection that made the dish stand out. Often a mixed salad is a sad affair - this was fresh, large, varied in it's ingredients and served with an excellent olive oil (we shared this too) A glass of white wine, a delizia di limone to share and we had had a lunch to remember with pleasure. I'll give credit where credit is due. It's right next to the historical center so it's a lively area, but that's it.

We ordered the Neapolitan ragu and meatball. The pasta is cooked nicely, exactly the way al dente should be. However, the sauce is a bit on a salty side. The meat could have been cooked a bit longer as it was simply not tender enough. The meatballs were decent and what I expected, so nothing too special.

Service could not have been slower, and we're talking about a lunch at 14:30 and I see the servers sometimes walking around doing nothing. I understand that Italian service is about not rushing the customers, but based on what other reviews said, I thought it would be speedy. I'm addition, when the meatball didn't show up, I asked about it and they promptly brought us a new set of utensils and soon after, the meatball. Seems like they missed it and while I understand mistakes happen, I don't expect it during a less-then-busy...

I ordered "Octopus with Potato Salad" as my starting dish. When I received my plate it was only the Octupus... After asking for the potato salad, as listed on the menu and therefore should be included, the waiter told me that the "Octopus with Potato Salad" dish comes without the potato salad. I insisted on recieving my potato salad and 10 minutes later the waiter brought me a plate of potatoes with rosemary. (Not a potato salad) Taking a look on the receipt, I got charged an extra 5€ for the potatoes with rosemary... Considering the fact, that the "Octopus with Potato Salad" dish cost me 14€, the extra 5€ are simply outrageous!

Even though, we were the last ones eating and I can understand that after a long day of working the staff might have been tired, I expect the customer service I pay for! I am aware of the restaurants good reputation and the overall rating of 4,6/5 but they simply failed to live up to these expectations...
