The gelato and patisseries were very good, and the Napoletan cookies are famous. I travelled from Rome then to Florence before visiting Naples, so I assumed Italians can speak a bit of English. Then I was greeted by the staff at the gelato counter who told me 'no English', I had to wreck my brain and use Google translate to figure out which flavours to have. It was well worth the effort. If you'd like a quick breakfast or bite, make sure you tell the staff you'll have the coffee/food 'al banco' (at the bar). Otherwise they'd say you'll have to sit down at a table if you don't want to order takeaway food. It was a bit funny when I saw the staff tell native English speakers to sit at a table, they probably didn't want to explain the difference in English... But luckily I have an obvious non-native accent, so with an emphasis of 'al banco', I managed to stand at the bar and had my quick bites. The rumours are correct, Southern Italians hardly speak English and they don't bother to learn more. So learn a few Italian words before visiting the South, they'll help you a lot. At least I'm back home now, determined to learn Italian so I can chat with the locals and ask for their favourite food next time when I'm travelling to the sunny and...
Read moreI had a terrible experience in this place. My breakfast was pre-paid from the hotel I staid and so I had a very limited choose on what to eat.
With this being said, my wife is allergic to egg, when I said that to the waiter, he just proposed us something “with just a little of egg in it”. This is extremely wrong as she could go to hospital if she eats “a little big of egg”. Then, the waiter did not find anything to accommodate us, so he just took the money and that is it, zero effort, maybe extra coffee?? Nothing.
The service is horrible and the seating area outside are very noisy as there is intense traffic in via Toledo. Also they don’t clean the tables when people leave.
I cannot judge the ice cream, my 1 star is just for location and the service: we are in 2022, just be...
Read moreA high quality pastry & ice cream shop with lots of different branches around the city of Naples, from the house of Leopoldo Cafe. In this branch we had our quick breakfast on the bar including an espresso. For pastries we order one donut filled with vanilla cream inside (which had just the right amount of cream that was exploded out of the dough as soon as we took a bite, and it wasn't too sweet which is not obvious for vanilla cream in my opinion), a classic sfogliatella (super crunchy and delicious) and a mini tartelette filled with vanilla custard and topped with some mini strawberries.
All of the pastries were super fresh and delicious, so I consider this place a great option if you love your sweet pastries and looking for a decent...
